Dig it but it definitely suffers a little from a lot of sameness throughout, particularly in the slower back end. Highlights for me beyond the singles are Shameless, Makes Me Sick, Rotten and Letting Go (they sure know how to write closers!!!). Still a good record though! Selfishly, I had hoped for a little more but that’s only because Where The Heart Is and Starchild are completely fucking incredible.
This is my take as well. I enjoyed it but reading the comments throughout the thread I thought I was in the minority of thinking it was redundant.
I listened to this once on Friday and remember being very impressed with the first 5 or so tracks and then remembering almost nothing at all about the back half until the closer, which is great. I'm sure it will open up a bit more with more listens. Good band
I really like this and have a bunch of listens already. I feel similarly to @Aurora Fire and @jciswhatis. The first album was such a good debut that I expected this to be a huge level up, but it seems like the same level as Where the Heart Is (which is still a pretty damn high level). I'd have liked some more variation throughout the songs, especially in the vocal melodies, which are very unique to Sweet Pill, but end up all sounding similar. While I liked the opener and closer, they didn't quite have the opener and closer vibe that I wanted but that's a me thing. This rocks and I'll be listening to it a lot more.
This post from a week ago too.... it looks like they were selling out places and I know they just upgraded the venue in Phoenix. Crazy.
I'm a little nervous that we haven't heard anything else in a week now. I know it's personal and I hope no one is badgering them, but I really hope all is well.
I saw one of the touring FOH members said on reddit it was a really serious health scare but they are all fine.
Lost her voice which caused panic attacks and the band was overall just exhausted from the recording of (and lead up to release) of the album. But will be re-scheduling the tour.
