Everyone who voted for Markos over Blanc at the beginning of the movie got their heads blown off at the end by Death.
Alamo drafthouse is showing this on and off since January is slow and I’m thinking of watching it again. I left the theater the first time a little confused and unsure of how I felt by it but I just can’t stop thinking about it for some reason. The last sequence with the dance was hypnotizing.
Finally watched this. It was definitely something. I liked it, but I haven't sorted out all my feelings about it yet.
The last 30 minutes were a bit difficult to watch. The scene with Susie’s dancing and voodoo-doll type medium with Olga in the mirrored room was also extremely unnerving - but very well done. Once I noticed Susie not have a reaction at all after she saw some of the matrons having fun with the spell-induced detective that something wasn’t right with Susie. Then it started to become a bit more obvious that she had had this attraction to Madame Blanc from an early age and was actively seeking her new role. Sorry for all the scrambled thoughts.
I'm down to rent digitally too but I know most places won't let you until the actual physical release date.
This absolutely flew by and was far more accessible than I was lead to believe So surprised at the middling reaction. This is brilliant and uncompromising. The score, choreography... somehow better than I built it up in my head.
So much of this was AMAZING but the subplot really weighed it down, imo; it really missed its emotional beats and felt like there was supposed to be more that perhaps got left on the cutting room floor. I also found the casting of the doctor to be very distracting - was there a reason for that choice?
I do want to emphasize that even though the WWII subplot didn’t work for me - at all - I was giddy with excitement for nearly the entire movie. Similar to but extremely unlike the original, this has its very own vibe, one that alternates between endearingly silly and suffocating intensity. Could’ve been an all time favorite with some refinement.
Finally got to check this out, its throwing a lot at you in kind of a messy way thematically, but I was fucking in it. Great performances, cinematography, and i almost feel like letting some of the themes go over your head is ok? Like you can ejoy it without completely following all of the cold war stuff and its still terrific and creepy.
Just rewatched this and it is still incredible. New appreciation for Mia Goth after watching High Life and Dakota and Tilda are incredible. Also feel really dumb for not realizing Tilda played like 3 characters.
finally watched this today (purposely in the middle of the day with my doggie on my lap because i was scared) and honestly what the fuck
yeah i think i wanna watch the original next. it looks fake enough that i won’t have to block out some of the gory parts lol
yes i watched with one eye open during the dance scene i’m sorry the rest of it i could handle though
Jordy I feel like I should warn you that these two movies are SO different ahaha. The original is very campy and dramatic. I think you’ll have fun with it!
