am i allowed to think this was incredibly well made but i had such a visceral/negative reaction to it that i don’t think i liked it?
My girlfriend and I are so excited for this - even rewatched the original this evening - but after we recently made the mistake of watching Martyrs, I’m worried this will have a similar impact. It’s nothing like that, right?
There is some body horror but I wouldn’t put it on the level of Martyrs. I don’t think anything touches that tbh. Anyway I walked out of this BEAMING. I loved it. I want to see it again immediately.
This is playing at a drive-in 15 minutes from my apartment But no way will Gina want to see it and 3 hours in my car is not my idea of fun heergh Edit:there's a theater that's closer and I'm dying y'all
A friend of mine saw this last night and said it was one of the best films he’s ever seen. I should probably check this out then.
Haven't gotten to see this but I did read about what it was, and I really like the implication but it seems strange to separate it from the film like that. Sounds like it would have been a really great last shot.
That was quite the fever dream. Also I haven’t been to an AMC in years. You can order food and they deliver to your seat? Ultra wack. People stomping up and down the stairs all movie. Not a fan at all.
This isn’t showing anywhere near me, pretty bummed but I shouldn’t be surprised ha. Crossing my fingers it might pop up a little closer next weekend.
Speaking more about the actual movie I thought there was some gorgeous camera work along with some downright awful camera stuff. Like, go-pro in The Hobbit levels of bad. There was only one moment like that though. Everything from the Volk dance to the climax is just insane.
Yeah, some of the quick pans and zooms (presumably done as a callback to the old Giallo films) were really jarring with the rest of the film’s more classical cinematography.
There were moments of awesomeness in this ( Suzie’s dance vs disconfiguration scene, the trippy dream sequences, Tildas double roles, the hypnotized cops) and some stuff that I think went over my head ( the theme of guilt and shame that was mentioned between Suzie and the doctor, the reason certain witches had their heads blown off during the ritual, the subplot of the bombings). Overall I liked it and it flew by for being 153 minutes.
