check your libraries, y'all. The first time I saw the original was courtesy of my library's DVD collection. It'll probably be ... not great quality, but you at least won't have to use a sketchy streaming site.
Seems like the people who didn’t like this REALLLYYT didn’t like it haha. The polarizing reviews kind of have me more excited.
Pretty sure it’s a regular streaming app like Netflix or Hulu that you can download on whatever device you use to watch things. Doesn’t seem sketchy at all to me.
My library has so many Criterion DVDs and Blu-Rays. Plus you can reserve anything online from any library in the city and they'll ship it to the library of your choice. It's a really awesome underused resource.
I didn't read the whole review because it talks some about the plot and I want to avoid that stuff, but I pasted a good bit that might give some insight on what we're in for.
So is this having a limited release for right now? There is like just one showing I can find in my area and that’s on Halloween.
I'd expect it to still be a pretty limited wide release overall - it's a nearly 3 hour arthouse slowburner.
I'm actually confused about the release, because there were definitely showtimes listed for premiere weekend on my local Cinemark's website last month that have now disappeared. Our local art theater has one showing listed on Halloween that's almost sold out and one for Friday that you can't purchase tickets for yet and no other showtimes listed. I'm going to be super bummed if I can't catch this opening weekend.
It'll go relatively wide at some point. It's opening at a major multiplex here on Friday (Canadian release)
My Alamo has a special screening on Halloween but it doesn’t look like it’s gonna be here this weekend...
Reading a ton of reviews and there is no way in hell my girlfriend (who tolerates horror, but tries to be open minded) is gonna be able to get through this, so I will probably go to a solo viewing next week after work. I am ready to get mind-fucked by a movie.
Same here, my girlfriend is a huge fan of the original and I know she was excited to see it but I had to be like "uh, this will likely not be what you want it to be"
I feel like the runtime is gonna be a hard sell for any of my friends. I'll probably end up seeing this solo as well.
I’m taking my wife on Saturday and I don’t think she quite understands what she’s getting herself into haha.
Want to see this. I wonder if this movie is similar to Mother given the reactions, bloody uncomfortable and polarizing.
Cool interview with Luca on the Ringer’s Big Picture podcast today: Luca Guadagnino on the Gory Glory of ‘Suspiria’ Also, if you’re looking for the original, in addition to library DVDs like @kaylasananjou mentioned, my library also offers free rentals through a streaming service called Hoopla, and it’s on there. So check if you have access to something like that as well.
This was slow going to start - and I thought for a bit I was going to hate it - but it ends up being pretty incredible. After things are established it just gets better and better as it goes.
