Started season 5 today and this one guy brings a skateboard to a desert island...?

 

Robb, he’s a interesting dude haha

 

It’s amazing how many people make for good tv show characters / entertainment but I would absolutely fucking hate in real life. But that’s kind of how these things have always worked I suppose.

Tony? Amazing tv show character filled with laughs and hijinks and funny paranoia. Real life: a fucking cop so really what more needs to be said.

James from season 10? Snarky but quite funny and self-depreciative humor and smart about the gameplay. Real life: Redneck hillbilly who definitely votes red and is possibly homophobic and is definitely quite sexist (only 4 episodes in and while he doesn’t say negative things about losing to Toby who is gay, and admits he beat his ass, it certainly could maybe be said better?)

 

Ok Stephenie from season 10 might be my favorite character. She’s such a badass and it’s craaaaazy how her tribe got decimated 8 straight times lmao

but her attitude and abilities and spirit are awesome.

 

I love Steph but she says worse things than James in s11, things of the time, but not great in hindsight

 

Ohhh interesting. Also interesting that she was in back to back seasons. I wonder how that all works out and when they decide that.

I remember watching the two seasons with Russell and him being on them back to back and then reading that the cast hadn’t seen his season because as soon as his first season was done he joined for the new season and I’m like “wtf this guy hasn’t been home in like 80+ consecutive days??” And I guess so lol. It also made sense then why the heroes squad gave him an idol because I’m like, “why the hell would you Give him of all people an idol?”

 

I was trying to work out when and if the All Star cast knew Rupert, cause he did back to back but when I browsed the time of filming vs being on tv I think it was only possible at minimum the other All Stars could’ve only seen 5eps or so of Pearl Islands

yeah I don’t think anyone previously saw Russell’s season prior

this cast all knew Steph in s11 and were stoked

 

Goddamn are people dumb in the second half of season 7 (Pearl Islands). I know who wins and I can’t figure out how she wins (especially who the runner up is) when there’s really only one or two people that are playing the game and everyone else is just slack-jawed and nodding and agreeing along with every possible agreement that gets mentioned lol

 

we finished season 7 last night. IMO they were too hard on the runner up.. but she also had terrible answers/attitude in the final tribal council.

 

ha, I finished it last night too. And agreed. Mentioning the Boy Scout uniform 37 times didn’t help lol.

Separate from that, one thing I think I’m noticing is that in the last few episodes the editing really tones down the villain of the season (if one exists). For season 7 it feels like some episodes are filled with 20 minutes of Johnny Fairplay. Which, I get it, he’s a great TV character (and probably terrible actual person) that people either loved or hated, so show off your prize possession. but the last two episodes or so they don’t show him as much and his obnoxiousness and attitude aren’t on display constantly which almost makes you forget about him. It’s like they want the last tribal council and whatnot to be a big sap fest instead of leaning into the villainy or some characters. Maybe later seasons they leave that in or maybe Johnny just calmed down the last few days to try and get the women to pick him, but it realllllly stood out and was another reminder of the magic or TV editing lol

 

Man.. so much victim blaming from the other contestants with the whole Sue/Rich thing on all stars. Rich was already making me uncomfortable with always being naked.. in that it felt like an intimidation tactic. He’s trash.. but the whole way the show portrayed this felt weird to me. Different times I suppose? Doesn’t seem that long ago though.

 

I rewatched that one and I’m sure the editors were just looking at him nude going “oh god this is hours blurring each frame or him swimming”

no wonder he got pulled from s40 late in this day and age

 

I thought Jeff was never gonna have him back because of All Stars and Me Too. But he was also saying that when interviewed for the pre game stuff. So who knows. Maybe someone said late they wouldn’t go if he was there. It does suck because game wise he needed to be there as season one winner and a decent player. But as a person he didn’t deserve the chance for more screen time or a chance at $2 million

 

I know this was touched on before, but it really is fun/fascinating to watch seasons already knowing who wins and who finishes 2nd because you can watch from a different view point.

knowing who finished second on Pearl Islands made me watch that character closer, same with the winner and same for other seasons. I’m now watch season 6 “The Amazon” and I’m baffled by how the runner up gets that far. I can see how the winner won, to some extent, but #2? I’m in the dark nine episodes in and that makes this a lot of fun.

I didn’t expect Survivor to be a show deemed rewatchable but it definitely could be for those that have already seen seasons and then go back and on the second viewing watch more of the strategy play out.

Oh I’ve definitely enjoyed the rewatch of s1-12 so far (plan on doing at least til s30 over 2020)
I can even see another rewatch in a when s50 happens

I like playing the game “do we remember them?” On very first start titles of premier of seasons, usually it’s only been 3-4 of 16/18 that my family recall

 

lmao oh my god I’m dead. Dave’s fucking nerd ass stupid question in the final has me wheezing. “What modern influential leader have you emulated during this game and what qualities of them have you shown best?”

There are some absolutely bumblefuck brain worms comments and thoughts made about the Sue and Hatch incident / response from season 8. Very cringe-y to watch and Kathy’s comments are a total wtf moment. Thankfully this show doesn’t have too many of those incidents (but more than 0 still sucks)

 

some random unoriginal ideas for future seasons that i'm sure everyone has thought of:

- a season with all 2nd place finishers

- a season with players who were all the first voted off from their season

- a season that starts with everyone living on their own for 3 days before forming 2 tribes

- a season where it's 16 or 20 people together from the start with nothing but individual immunity and the winner gets to give immunity to one other person each time or their vote counts twice

 

Forgot I wanted to respond to this.

YES. My thought is somewhat similar to "Second Chance" but mainly aims to go for 2nd place finishes and is rounded by people who made HUGE errors. You'd need Wu to be the headliner of this season.

Could be interesting but IDK if enough people would remember/care about them

I've thought about something similar where each contestant has to build their own shelter for one but can use fire tokens to buy supplies from others. Reward challenges would be individual whereas immunity would be schoolyard picks and losing team goes to tribal.

 

Jason Siska wins that one over Wu, haha

 

Not sure if I've seen that season but I threw Wu out there since everyone told him he wrote Tony's check.

 

I won't spoil it for you in that case, but it's....... yeah, hahaah

 

what season is this? I might jump to that season after I finish 11. My curiosity is peaked!
