Listening to his podcast and Fairplay just told about how 3 months prior to filming King George was living with him and ordering $60 of Popeyes chicken on the daily and I'm dying hahahaha. Also US people who got calls and eventually got cut. Kelly Wentworth Stephanie LaGrossa Tyson Cochran We REALLY need there to be a VS World S2 and PLEASEEEEE make it a bigger cast and somewhat longer season. Please!
EP02 God I love Kirby haha. Part of me was like NO! Do not repeat Davids name around his closest people! But that's her style, she's cutthroat. She's unafraid. I was howling during the Kirby/George/David talk in the jungle good God. "I heard it's me!" "WELL I HEARD ITS ME!" Meanwhile Kirby is just sitting back smiling watching it all and gets thrown under the bus by George. Another hectic tribal and the smart choice was made. They absolutely had to make that move, he was the biggest threat. Oh yeah the actual intro is fire. Luke in the bag and the flag hitting George in the face hahahaha. Welp there it is, surprised they didn't at least give JLP a final full season before officially announcing it since the show is STILL airing. Look, David absolutely makes for great TV but I don't know how that will translate to host. They already neutered his look and have him looking like the Australian Bob Ross.
I've only watched 5 seasons, but Jonathan is a truly terrible host, I'm sorry. Not saying David will be any better but Jonathan is so bad
Important question, in Aus v the world, have they talked about how far each player has made it in their seasons? I assume they have, but just gauging if it's even possible for me to watch without spoiling 4+ seasons I haven't seen
I figured so, you kinda have to haha. I have just the finale of All Stars left, then gonna try to watch the seasons that the Aus cast was on... Then watch. Luckily I am great at avoiding spoilers because I'm not on Twitter, but my wife sees a lot
He's very bad at tribal council, his questions he asks are either giving away into he shouldn't be or extremely surface level. He's constantly referring to alliances, that's so bad. So many times, we have to yell at the TV "YOU CAN'T SAY THAT" because he gives away info to the game he isn't supposed to reveal. At challenges, he's constantly praising certain players or cutting down other players, usually unwarranted. Ie saying someone is "so far behind" when they're completely still in it, etc Sure maybe it's 48 seasons of Jeff, who is a total pro, clouding things, and maybe he gets better, but in the first 5 seasons he's very very very very bad at being a host of survivor
I’ve only watched later seasons that you haven’t seen yet (Brains v Brawn 1 and 2, Heroes vs Villains, and Titans v Rebels) but I think he’s a better host than Jeff lol. So maybe he does get better in later ones!
Adding another vote for JLP >> Probst. Probst in the first half of the series was fine but his decision to cater more towards family viewership and younger kids has neutered the product. How twist-dependent he's made the game is incredibly dissappointing and shows a lack of faith in what truly makes a special season: the cast. Minus a few exceptions, people play more aggressive/freely when they're not constantly worried about half the tribe having some contrived mechanic that's sole purpose is to introduce randomness into the game. He's also gotten way too deep into people being on a "journey of self discovery" out there that the social strategy gets lost too often. My wife and I have been more entertained by the most recent handful of Australian Survivor seasons than most of the last 20 or so US seasons save for a couple great ones like David vs Goliath. Hoping David is a natural fit as the new host but still a confusing move given the network was searching for solutions to a nonexistent problem.
I think you're a bit confused, Jonathan doesn't produce Aus Survivor like Jeff does. I absolutely agree the show of Aus Survivor has so many games benefits like you mention, but that has nothing to do with him, he's just a host and doesn't have creative control of the show
I'm aware JLP isn't involved in production. I was just highlighting some issues I have with Jeff as both a host (too soft on players and emphasis on journey vs. gameplay) and showrunner (forced gameplay mechanics and safe casting choices). Another thing I'll add about JLP is he's better about getting the tribes to interact with each other during pre-merge challenges than Jeff does. US used to be better at that but it's another interesting dynamic that's been lost over the years as it's become more averse to conflicts (e.g. lack of villains). Having said all of that, US Survivor has become so stale that any host of a more entertaining version is a breath of fresh air. If JLP had been the host of US for the last 10-15 seasons I don't think the entertainment value would've been significantly higher but wouldn't have been a negative. Ultimately, casting and volume of mechanics drive 100% of a season's quality.
Sometimes I wonder if Jeff being producer also influences how he hosts as in he knows or at least wants to push certain angles or narratives. I also agree the change to a more friendly, family oriented, no REAL villain has hurt casting and the self discovery angle is so cringe to me. I miss spicy Jeff.
EP03 Can you imagine if Shonee goes home and George has NOTHING to do with it hahaha that would have been priceless to see. It'll be interesting to hear why Sarah and Kirby switched to him, Sarah was fully on board with her original plan so I wonder what swayed her. The immunity idol hidden at JLP's podium should be interesting. Gonna be harder to get that, at least last time there was one hidden at tribal it was in a place the person could grab on the way out, this is in a place in the opposite direction.
10000% agree, the way his questions and comments just out the ENTIRE game every time drives me nuts. It's like he's coming from the perspective of someone who just watched the fully edited episode, rather than the neutral "on the island in the moment" mediator I think the host should be.
It's so bad in All Stars, he constantly refers to "The Alliance" and who is in it, it's insane, you can't do that!!!! Also it's very minor, but he's obsessed with saying "FINALLY" in challenges and usually is overdramatic about it. Like if someone is a few seconds after someone else in throwing a ball or whatever, he goes FINALLY JOEBOB THREW THE BALL. Drink every time he says finally and you'll die
OMG at Aus All Stars final trial council.... AK's rocks proposition to Sharn was truly amazing, I really love that he came up with that
Finished Aus All Stars, definitely one of the best seasons of the show, period. Starting Brains V Brawn right now
