Yeah, love that guy. Fun fact too, his partner is Dessie Jackson - an insanely talented graphic design & stop motion artist who works with artists from Balance & Composure, to Sabrina Carpenter, to Eric Clapton. Real power couple over there
we binged through this the past couple weeks (after having watched like half of it several years ago). one of the better sitcom endings for sure, although reading previous posts in the thread, the original plans for S6 & a potential S7 would've been interesting.
I just started watching this too for the first time. To be honest, I had no idea it went on for 6 seasons or was as well received as it was. I always thought it was a 1 and 2 and done and a tepid failure. Very funny so far (half way through s2) and while it's DNA is certainly evident, all the characters and jokes are landing at the minute.
I think Superstore is a victim of coming in at the tail end of NBC comedy’s (and network comedy in general) popularity. Felt like right about the time a lot of younger people were switching to full online streaming. But it’s highly overlooked and underrated.
Rarely do I think these network sitcoms get better as they go, but this show definitely has. Almost done with season 5 and the jokes / characters and plots are better than ever. Been a very enjoyable binge. Obviously shows take a minute to find their groove but they normally peak then dip and I don't think this one has at all. Some great ones during S5. Now I need to start thinking of the next work from home watch as I'll be done with this soon enough.
Agreed. Those first few seasons are fine to me, significantly under par in the scope of other sitcoms I enjoy, but watchable. Then, and I don’t remember if it’s season 4 or 5, there’s a very sudden marked improvement somewhere. The jokes just become a lot stronger. Dunno if they hired new writers or simply found their footing, but it’s the rare show that I would tell someone to keep watching even if the first couple of seasons didn’t click
Just rewatched this. And man, there is something just so warm and comfy about this show for me. Every time I watch it I’m always sad when it ends, but then I remind myself that I’m surprised and glad it even made it 6 seasons.
I miss this show so much. St Denis Medical is very similar with the "warm and comfy" feeling, it's also made by the same people and features some of the actors from Superstore.
Did anyone in here check out American auto? It only lasted two seasons, but I thought that was pretty on par with the comedy & heart of superstore. I haven’t seen any Saint Dennis so I can’t compare But I watched all of American auto when it was on
Only caught a few eps of American Auto, didn't love it. I like St Denis a lot, but I'm pretty far behind because I don't have peacock anymore Unrelated, but I also enjoyed what I've seen of DMV. I'm assuming that's gona get cancelled, but I think it had some potential. Good cast at least
Didn't care for American Auto. DMV is better but also not super into it. If ya'll haven't checked out Stumble, give it a shot. some great laugh out loud moments.
Wasn’t really feeling the first couple episodes of St. Denis back when it started off, didn’t follow through. Didn’t realize it was still going. Threw it on tonight while getting some work done, like halfway through season 1 and it is definitely hitting. Was too quick to judge this one
It was fine, it had it's moments. Best part was the actor who played Marcus from Superstore, his character was very similar. I like St Denis much better, it also feels like it would last much longer on air.
St Denis dropping on Netflix 4/1. About to potentially get the Netflix popularity bump. I never finished season 1, but I liked what I saw. I would argue St Denis is a funnier medical comedy than the Scrubs revival.
