Yeah. What felt off to me was Lex being led away to prison and law enforcement and the government being disgusted by his actions at the end. My immediate response was “I don’t think Lex would get prison time if this happened in real life.”
They weren't disgusted at Lex helping kill more brown people, they were just disgusted he'd name his country Lextopia.
I fully expect the next time we see him, or even as an Easter egg in Peacemaker, we find out he didn’t serve any time and is back to business as usual.
Man, I loved this so much. -Mr. Terrific was so damn cool and I can’t wait for the show -The Jimmy plot line was hilarious -Krypto is the best boy and I love him -The chemistry between David and Rachel was so damn electric and I loved it. -Nathan Fillion was perfect as Guy Gardner -Nicholas Hoult was like a PERFECT villain, holy shit. I just loved hate watching him as Lex, I wanted to punch him in the mouth so many times. Him crying at the end was orgasmic, it felt so damn good after all the evil shit he did.
Movie fucking rips. My face hurts from smiling so much. Certainly won't be the last time I see it in a theater. Mr. Terrific scene at the base on the beach had me shook. So much fun.
My BIL said that the end of the message from Superman's birth parents ruined the movie for him. I don't know much Superman lore but I thought it was ridiculous for him to say regardless.
I think to be mad at this change from the comics misses the point that it makes Clark's choices even more powerful. He is at odds with the message because of what he wanted it to mean which speaks to who he is as a person. I agree that it's silly to care whether his birth parents were good or evil. And the harem line, while ridiculous, at least makes sense in context since they'd want him to basically recreate Krypton single-handedly.
Which reminds me, Lex on the news show saying that he's mad because who knows how big Superman's harem is already is such a beautiful incel of a line that I feel was directly pointed at right-wing man children. Edit: This is continuing from my post, not in response to Hal.
Saw this today and absolutely loved it. Can’t think of a better movie to finally get my ass back in a theatre seat for the first time since 2020.
The conflict did not start in 2023 and this could have been written with that same spin even before then.
I really liked this. Was a bit heavy on the campiness at times, but a lot of positives and the tone finally felt right after a lot of DC misfires. The chemistry was really strong and I am hopeful that this is a great starting point for the new DCU.
Best Superman movie ever. I honestly can't even imagine a better Superman movie. Embraced everything that makes the character special. James Gunn has my full trust with this new DCU. EDIT: Also loved the obvious analog for Israel-Palestine. Much respect to Gunn for taking a stance in a big way. Free Palestine.
Not by any means the best movie I’ve seen this year but the one that made me the happiest both times I’ve seen it.
I like that this Lex Luther is very easily able to beat up Superman as long as he’s controlling a being of comparable strength. Implies that Superman has never had to actually learn how to fight, which makes sense given that someone as strong / fast / durable as him wouldn’t normally need to
