Hoping it makes it to around 500-600m by the end of its run. Hoping Fantastic Four doesn’t take off too much of its legs.
Loved this. Loved being dropped in en media res and into a fully realized word that trusted it's audience. Loved having a simple story with themes and character. Loved that it was cheesy without being too corny. I thought the humor landed and the lack of winky ”well that just happened" jokes was so refreshing. I hope that it's successes are a watershed moment for blockbuster films and that it shows studios that audiences both want and deserve sincerity in not only story, themes, and characterization, but in practice and production. The cynicism is so tired at this point, this felt like fresh air in pop-filmmaking and a new leaf for the genre.
Pretty mixed on this. Superman was never my guy, and this didn’t change that. It’s been pointed out elsewhere that it kinda feels like a Saturday morning cartoon, and I feel like that would work better in a series than in a movie like this. Idunno. Middle East conflict stuff reaaaaaaally didn’t sit right with me because I’m so jaded about our reality. I wanted more Lois and Clark together. Too much CGI. Zero good fight scenes. David and Rachel were great but both somehow underused? Just kinda complaint dumping here but maybe we’ll see on a rewatch.
Feeling like a Saturday morning cartoon is the biggest compliment for a comic book movie that I can think of
Only part I didn't really care for was the almost uncomfortably close up face shots during flying scenes Also didn't think Anthony Carrigan had enough to do as Metamorpho and didn't really care for his character design.
I loved the fight scenes in this, but yeah the cartoon vibes is part of why they worked for me. It was over the top in all the right ways.
Metamorpho was played differently than I expected, but I'm actually kind of onboard with a guy with so much power being a bit of a softie. As for his design, what do you mean? He looks like he does in the comics.
I liked that it was practical and that he wasn't a fully CGI character aside from obvious moments when he's a floating head and whatnot
All this "Superman feels like a saturday morning cartoon" talk has me going back and watching the actual 90's Superman saturday morning cartoon.
I think the Metamorpho design was spot on, and I dug how he felt as a character in that last stretch of the movie. But, the whole tortured angle meant most of his screen time here didn’t really feel like him. Now that he’s with the, uh, “Justice Gang,” I’m excited to see what comes of him going forward. Especially since there was that brief look of him with Sapphire Stagg, and the Easter egg of Stagg Industries. A lot of fun shit that could be touched on down the road.
Do we think the whole Justice Gang is going to eventually be a part of the Justice League? Or are we looking at a John Stewart Green Lantern in the JL instead?
The latter. I doubt the Gang will quit Lord Industries, they'll probably be like the more corporate partner to the League's altruism.
If you're asking if I think they're going to copy the roster from the Justice League cartoon, no, I don't.
That first plot is absolutely plausible based on how Olsen's been characterized in the movie. Let's do it.
Any film they have Hawkman in, it should be a completely different Hawkman, but act like it's the same one, to recreate the feeling of his continuity snarl.
