I don't understand the complaints about exposition in this. So we got... What? 4 lines of text on the screen as a short summary of past events that lasted all of 30 seconds? That didn't bother me in the slightest haha
I didn’t mind the exposition, but dropping us in a movie that felt like episode 5 of a series was kind of odd. I kind of liked that approach, but also kind of didn’t. I didn’t want another origin story, but it also brought in a bunch of side characters from the get go.
Establishing off the bat that superheroes already have existed publicity for 300 years is smart because it gives you an almost unlimited room for prequels exploring that timeline.
i love how during the trailer the big eyeball looking thing in the background seems like some important thing and then during the movie clark is like what oh that no they have they handled i was looking for krypto lol
It gave me the feeling of being a kid with random issues of incomplete story arcs and piecing together what came before with context clues. Which was great. So comic-book-y. And, if my kid self was able to roll with that and love those comics, I think audiences are smart enough to piece this movie’s story together as it unfolds.
Guy not wanting Metamorpho to join the Justice Gang and then immediately changing his mind when he said that was a cool name got a good chuckle out of me. I love Anthony Carrigan.
Just saw this and loved it. Give me more everything. The dynamic between Superman and Lois, Superman and Lex, just perfect. Krypto is best boy. Also love the credits gag of "Gary" being second billed, lol. I thought this was great and something I have never seen one of these films do before, treat what would be some monumentally epic shit in any other movie like an uninteresting background event. Really adds multitudes to the whole "this is a living breathing universe" feel to actually show that superlife goes on without Superman being involved.
Just now occurring to me that the whole plot spins off Superman threatening another country's leader but Hawkgirl fucking murders him and there's no problem. I mean, I'm cool with it.
Love the army of trained monkeys flooding the internet with Superman insults. Very comic booky, very petty for Luthor, and also very on the nose for real life trolls, but hilarious.
Starting in the middle of the action and showing how non-plussed Metropolis citizens were about the daily monster attacks were two savvy moves that elevated this movie above the previous DCEU films. Other writers and directors would waste an hour of screen time showing us what we got in 3 sentences and ram in serious ‘heavy-stakes’ shots of vulnerable citizens into every battle and it’d be to check off a box of how movies are supposed to be and not in service of creating a joyful, mesmerizing movie experience.
I’m seeing this again tomorrow. I think the last time one of these movies made me want to run to the store and buy some comics was the first spider-verse
Nah, everyone has seen a million superhero movies and tv shows by this point. It takes all of 30 seconds to discern who is who and what their main personality/role is in the story. All of that would just take even more time away from what we actually want to see: Superman and Lex Luther
I loved this so, so much. It's everything I was hoping a James Gunn Superman would be. Clark/Lois/Lex were all so perfectly cast and I already can't wait to see more of this universe and these characters.
There were so many times during that film where I was like "man, idk, I REALLY fucking can't stand Lex in this" and then it dawned on me that's kind of the point lol Still, wouldn't complain about a Rosenbaum Lex but with Hoult's tech genius brain
