Oh, how could I forget? How nice was it to have a Pa Kent who didn’t want Clark to let kids die to protect himself? Obviously, a much smaller role in this one, but he nailed his main scene with Clark. In that one conversation, it just did such a better job of staying true to their relationship. In James Gunn we trust.
I saw someone mention it before seeing it. The way it was described, I was expecting worse. But it did feel odd.
I’ve been sick of superhero shit for years but damn I fully loved this. Felt like being dropped right into a 90s Saturday morning cartoon.
As said, no one in Kansas or anywhere in the Midwest talks like that. It’s always the Hollywood go-to accent for us.
Sorry boys but this fucking ripped. The opening sequence was the closest I’ve gotten as an adult to that feeling of being a kid and seeing the original Superman or Star Wars or some weird knockoff droid/hero/sci-fi movie and not being able to quantify or contextualize it so it just goes straight into your veins and into your nervous system. I was immediately plugged in and vibing. It was perfect fun. It wasn’t perfect as a movie but it was a hell of a movie that kept being what a popcorn movie should be: entertaining, surprising, bigger than life, outrageous, on-the-nose when needed, virtuous, etc etc. No sequence felt like a slog to me, even if I can acknowledge not everything was maybe my favorite choice. I have to ask though. What happens between when Superman exits the portal after being rescued and when Jimmy and Mutant Toe’s are on the phone? I took a 1 minute pee break. Proud of myself for only needing one. Finally, how can anyone who is a Superman fan not walk away excited by this movie? Even the extra scenes were pure fun and not encumbered by anything other than sparking joy in a viewer.
Loved this so much. Such a feel good movie. Definitely can't wait to see it a second time with my son.
Jimmy Olsen, Superman's Pal. It worked in the comics. Greg can't see this, can someone do me a solid?
I liked Jimmy well enough in this, but he didn’t really do much besides be burdened with hot women who wanna jump his bones. If that show comes to fruition, I hope it leans into the gonzo joy of classic Superman’s Pal Jimmy Olsen comics. Have him transform into monsters. Rope him into wild sci-fi criminal shenanigans. Heck, do an episode where he’s in drag! (With a queer person steering that story so it doesn’t land in bad tropes, lol.)
Eh, I don’t know if we need a show where the focus is on a guy who is with a woman he doesn’t actually like. Not that it couldn’t be about him coming around on her and all that. I just think there’s a butt load of other characters that would be far more interesting.
Prior to seeing this, I was in the “They could make Battinson fit in this universe if they really wanted to” camp. After seeing this, I would be absolutely flabbergasted if they made Pattinson the Batman of this universe.
