Obviously, everyone has different tastes and it’s not a perfect movie, but I really don’t know how you leave this not liking it overall. Like, come on.

I’ll post more later. But what a great start for this universe (cinematically at least, I liked Creature Commandos). This is the opposite of how I felt leaving Man of Steel. People can like that movie or whatever. I don’t say that to bash it, but it’s just so nice to feel excited about more Superman again.

I personally really enjoyed Man of Steel, it just made a lot of weird choices. It was everything else that Cavill was in that was just utter garbage imo. But I'm very excited for a more vibrant, wholesome, cheesy and hopeful Superman movie vs dark and gritty.

After watching Man of Steel, I was convinced that Snyder hated Superman and he proceeded to prove that right with everything else he did with Supes.

The one thing I didn’t love about this was how it handled the Jor-El and Lara angle. The general idea is novel and not necessarily one I’m opposed to, but I think it went a bit too far for my tastes?

I’ll talk through my thoughts a bit more I think when more of y’all see this.

    Some random thoughts:

    - Lois was great, and her dynamic with Clark was great. Every moment centered on the two of them absolutely popped.

    - While Hawkgirl probably had the least to do of all the superheroes in this, I think Isabela Merced did a really good job with her. Love that she yells like a ferocious bird.

    - I loved the opening text and the way the movie started with everything already under way. And the way it tossed genre aspects in without needing to “explain” more than necessary. Hope that proudly comic-book-y approach hits well enough with audiences for me to get more of it.

    - That Supergirl cameo at the end was definitely not how I envision the character (if anything, she’s more like Power Girl to me), but it’s what I expected. I don’t mind deviation from what my nerd brain calls “correct” if the results are good & fun enough for me. “Thanks for watching my dog, bitch” was charming; I’m sure the director of Cruella & I, Tonya will utilize that take well.

I’m not sure I’ve ever tried spoiler tagging when quoting a bunch of posts. If it comes out wonky, SPOILER WARNING! Haha don’t read my post if it’s mostly visible. Although, I’ll probably have some spoiler free random thoughts at the end.

the squirrel did a great job, too. Haha

I wasn’t taken out of the movie at all, but I’d agree that the first portion had a lot of world building to do and some parts landed better than others. It’s kind of challenging to jump right into a 3rd year story that everyone already knows the origin of. Especially when it’s the first movie in a series. For me and probably all of us on here, we don’t really need any backstory, but we also can’t know exactly where these characters are in their dynamic immediately. Like, when Lois was teasing Clark about always interviewing Superman, I wasn’t sure whether it was intentional poking or her noticing something and trying to dig for info. This is all answer very quickly in her apartment in the next scene, but having to kind of clock where their relationship is felt odd in the moment. Like I know by the end of the movie they’ll be together and she’ll know who he is, but wasn’t sure where we would pick up.

Gotta say, Clark loving brinner made me smile.

I think showing how evil he really is was the right call. It’s his utter lack of humanity that makes Rex(?) turn on him. I also think showing us a rich guy who uses his wealth and influence to hurt others is super realistic. We have many examples in the real world, so in that way it’s unsettling, I suppose. But it also helps highlight the contrast to Superman who has more power than anyone and how he uses it for good and to defend life.

Oh, it’s not subtle haha it’s absolutely a mirror to it all. I’d have to assume when they explained how Lex was setting himself up as a god or whatever that it was referencing that unhinged “Trump is coming” Gaza video at the start of the year.

    Interesting. We had two proposals.

I remember driving home bummed and wondering if I would be an outlier. I saw it Friday early vs doing a midnight screening. I got home and put on the Half In The Bag video and was relieved that I would not be alone in my thoughts on it. Dark times though haha

That was a bit odd. But it made me think about Dragon Ball and Goku. I think it was retconned (but maybe not canonically?) that Goku wasn’t meant to conquer earth, but it fits haha although, instructing him to have a bunch of wives was a choice, to be sure.

Justice Gang was legit. Fun group of characters, they all killed it. The look Merced gives herself when Terrific reveals he puts nanobots in everyone was great. Hope we get more from all of them.

Lois was great! I liked how they handled her dynamic with Clark and how she felt about herself in the context of relationships.

The man of steel himself, of course, was incredible. David was such a great casting choice.

Doing what’s right is punk rock! Haha

    Oh yea,

Milly as Supergirl did great in that scene and made me even more pumped for next year. She looks exactly how you’d expect. Her being a big partier is funny and should help really differentiate her from her cousin.

love that peacemaker was talking shit haha

My other takeaway: Between Jimmy’s ex, the reporter showing cleavage and Supergirl, James Gunn certainly has a thing for a kind of ditzy blonde.

I love Cat Grant as a hot and horny part of the Planet and wouldn’t have minded more of her. But also, having both her and Eve the ex at the same time was maybe a bit too much of the whole funny slut angle, lol. Good thing the MVP of the movie was Lois to balance things out.
