I agree with this assessment. A ton of really good stuff here - great cast, Superman truly feeling like Superman, some good jokes. I think it being a post-origins story works a little against it. Like, I would have liked to spend more time at The Daily Planet or seeing Lois and Clark fall in love. There’s just so much going on at all times, but thankfully, Gunn knows how to pump the brakes and have some nice, touching moments here. Good, but not quite great imo.
Just got out of it. Fantastic movie, it's such a Gunn movie, I definitely got the GotG vibes. The cast was great, the cameos that will lead to the greater DC-verse have me excited for the future. Beck Bennett is my fav SNL person so seeing him in this was great. The fact conservatives are getting riled up is hilarious. Faux outrage on a story about just being a decent human being is BAD. In Gunn we trust.
Also the ANIMALS (yes animals) hahahahahaha. Not only was krypto adorable but the monkeys....oh the monkeys..... I expect plenty of memes.
I just got out and I mostly loved this! I do think the dialogue, especially in the first act, was ROUGH with its exposition. To the point of taking me out of the film twice and I did find a few moments a little too silly but overall? Good stuff. Can’t wait for Supergirl now!
Even though Gunn gets a little mean and violent with Luthor, this really is an incredibly hopeful movie. Corenswet’s Superman feels like the one that “Man of Steel” teaser promised and did not deliver.
Also how good was the score, the use of supe's theme was godlike. I think I'd say I'm more of a marvel guy personally, but this movie was a top tier superhero movie for me. And give Mr. Terrific his own movie!
I have somewhat mixed feelings about Luthor as he just came off like a bratty teen at times IMO but I did like seeing how far he would go to show his determination to break Superman. Mr. Terrific was easily the best supporting character here and I’m really hoping he continues to pop up in future projects.
Read a few reviews that ranged from positive to mixed/negative. And between those and responses here and elsewhere… sounds like this is gonna be extremely my shit. Can’t wait to soak in the Silver Age wackiness, and then deal with a couple of my friends who don’t like James Gunn complain about the jokiness, lol.
This was pretty much what I expected from a Gunn Superman film. Expectations met. Can’t wait for Supergirl
Saw it last night and could not have loved it more. It’s the most I’ve felt like a kid again at the movies in a long time. So much heart and totally wacky in the best way possible. I am very much into the future of DC movies if this is the direction.
Definitely a feel good film with the right amount of cheese. The world also felt very fleshed out, as if we had walked into something that had already existed for a long time.
I'm not seeing this until Sunday and I'm gonna bounce from the thread now that people are able to see it, but THIS is what I'm most excited about.
I adored it, as well. The casting was spot on (Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy was particularly great). Everyone was so goddamned charming. It was hilarious, sweet, and so vibrant. So glad I went and saw it in theaters. Everyone was eating it up.
I will say as a Midwesterner, I don’t know what they were going for with Ma Kent’s accent. No one from Kansas sounds like they’re from the cartoon Deep South.
Yep. I'm so glad it wasn't an origins story. Yeahhhh when I heard her southern accent indie a double take haha. Amazon prime ftw
