fuck it, feel free to disregard this post if you wanna save the hilarity for yourself a slowed down cover of the middle during what i recall to be some standard issue final battle scene hope you're happy. again, no shame in looking away (same w/ greg's post below) if you're those who'd rather go in blind
Mad Max style super hero movie sounds fun but I think the reviews have me ready to catch this on HBO Max.
Not the best superhero movie but I had fun and sometimes you just need to escape for a bit and have fun
Man, this really could’ve worked. So much throughout really did work. But, I’m ultimately kinda like, whatever.
I loved this. Well, most of it, anyway. It's far from perfect. Not all of it worked for me. I particularly didn't like a few of the changes it made from the book (Lobo didn't need to be in this, like, at all). But thematically/emotionally I got what I wanted out of it, sooo overall I view it as an accomplishment. If this is some kid's introduction to Kara (not counting her cameo in her cousin's film), I think it does a fine job. I hope this inspires girls to be good-hearted but also unafraid to be kind of a mess along the way
Supergirl is going to be in MOT, right? I suppose it'll be worth watching just to be caught up with that
Yeah, it's a little less Guardians of the Galaxy and a little more Mad Max in space. I kinda wish the Brigands weren't so Reavers-from-Firefly-coded. Krem is like this super handsome rogue in the comics. It's kinda weird that the movie makes him look so comically/unambiguously evil
This wasn't bad at all. Maybe because I read your spoiler I was prepared for it but you made it sound like it was gonna be something egregious
I think this was on par with Captain Marvel, a bit flawed but still very enjoyable. the MCU put out some not-so-great films before it found its footing, not to mention it took forever for them to release a female-fronted movie. i think the Gunn-iverse is doing just fine
People tend to forget that the MCU had some average films after Iron Man. Hulk, Iron Man 2, Thor, and Captain America 1 were all average. The internet makes it seem like average films can't exist anymore. A film has to be great or it sucks.
This was more good than bad so I personally wouldn't call it mid but yeah it's okay for films to be just okay
I would agree that “discourse” in “fandom” tends to be hyperbolic about things being amazing or terrible. But, I disagree with the idea that there should be more mediocre movies. If anything, there should be fewer. Better to be an interesting failure than bland and without personality.
Though, that’s not really my hang up here with this one. It’s more that pieces, some of them quite good, didn’t add up to a successful whole for me. Felt kinda sloppy and half baked in some ways. Perhaps the editing was part of it? The handling of the villain and core conflict certainly wasn’t there.
The difference is that you're coming from a pejorative direction and I think what justin and xkaylinh are saying is what you started your post with, that people get hyperbolic about a film's quality and, by extension, its worth. No one is saying it's okay to be mediocre. It is okay to be okay though. Clearly this is all eye of the beholder stuff, trash vs treasure, etc, etc.
