I took my kids to see this today and we loved it. Not as good as Superman and a little too scary for my 6 year old, but I had a good time!

Saw this yesterday, thought it was ok. I enjoy Milly as Kara and appreciate Woman of Tomorrow was the basis for the story. The interactions between Kara and Clark were a highlight and the needle drops were fine. The dialogue didn’t stand out to me though, and I don’t think the movie built up the emotional weight it called for

i did not know going in that woman of tomorrow is sorta based on True Grit, and if that's what they were going for, they failed

I still can't tell if Josh liked the movie or not, gonna need a few more clues to figure it out.

Lobo was the third or maybe fourth best character in this movie, which is perhaps more a statement on the movie.

I’m just tired of the superhero movie character that’s so over it. Having two characters do it is too much! Along with that, you also have the usual “character who hates her sidekick until they have a heart-to-heart” subplot. It really dragged down “Ready or Not 2” and it did the same for me here.

Gosh, I saw someone I generally respect repost a take that the reaction to Supergirl is because of misogyny.

Obviously there are people on social media who thrive off outrage who are doing that same tired dance. But, I simply cannot deal with “disliking a mediocre genre movie is because of bigotry” discourse.

Shoutout to the people who like flawed movies. I do it a lot. The Marvels was even one of the ones I had a great time with! But like. God forbid fans and critics, many of them women (or otherwise not men), have expectations, standards, and disappointment, lol.

I think both can be true.

I have no doubt plenty of people just didn't like the film, didn't like the adaptation, or just plain weren't interested in seeing it.

I also have no doubt there is a whole subset of folks harassing Alcock and being toxic about the film for purely misogynistic reasons.

It's a big "beautiful" world out there.

  19. But have you seen Fox News having an absolute culture war breakdown over it? :crylaugh:

  20. Obviously just because you're a man who dislikes it doesn't mean you're automatically misogynist. However... I saw someone on tiktok point out that on RT most men reviewed the movie negatively but most women didn't

Between this and “The Odyssey,” some people need to be denied internet access and just get their movies through some old, Netflix-like DVD rental service that ships only movies from The Daily Wire.

I just think these are two separate phenomena that are only related insofar as “movie with woman title character performs poorly” is red meat for those outrage trolls. (But, only if it’s part of a franchise that people “care about”; I don’t think I saw many conservatives bother to latch onto Madame Web, lol.)

When the discourse gets framed like this, it conflates the hate mongers and trolls (and the conservative infrastructure that gives them power) with critics who thought the cape movie was bad. And, imo, that’s a very stupid thing to do, that frankly does a disservice to not just movie criticism, but also to the targets of right wing campaigns. (Even if Alcock sucked in this, she wouldn’t deserve misogynist campaigns against her.)

Gosh, of course this is happening, lol. They have the actual meaningful power in this country, but they need reactions to continue to fuel their reactionary agenda. So, they gotta pretend they give a shit about the WNBA, etc.

Also, I hadn’t seen that Alcock apparently said something about “Christian dads,” lol. Bold, funny, true statement.

Every time Krem was onscreen I was like "god, can you imagine if Kamala did this?"

If Krem is replaced by a Democrat, a lot of liberals are gonna care a lot less about those kids in those cages.
