A good way to improve I've found is center your attention on what the enemy player is doing rather than on your own character. Takes a bit of getting used to but helps you figure out any patterns they may have so you can react accordingly/make reads on them

    1. Watch YouTube videos and twitch streams from pros.

    2. Practice against CPU level 9 because they do insane moves.

    3. Play with friends because fun is a must.

4.(optional) go to local smash tournaments or game nights at esports arenas.

    so much for them! Prestigious

is level 9 more useful here than in 4? because in 4 it was too much, to the point where it wasnt helpful to train against it because it has unreal reaction times since it knows your inputs before a human player would.

  7. Me sitting over here feeling good about finally getting good v Level 6. :crylaugh:

I've just accepted Super Smash Bros is not a game I'm ever going to be good at but can still enjoy at my super casual level

@loudasallgetout any idea if you’ll be able to play today around 5:30-6?

If not, @zigbigwig can we get an extension until tomorrow? Neither of us were home most of this week because of the holidays.

Same. The thing is, getting truely good at any fighting game requires unrealistic levels of dedication anyway, so fuck it.

I’m not like “pro” level great or anything but for me I remember way back that the big turning point for being able to beat lvl. 9s was mastering when to shield / air dodge / roll. I rarely ever go charging in, it’s all about waiting for the right opening in the opponent’s attack

the other day I was trying to Up B onto the ledge and the level 9 cpu jumped off and used Down B on me and killed me and jump back onto the ledge.

    I was raging so hard.

There's also a cognitive dissonance when you know like how to be good and play the game but lack the skill level to do it well, where you can totally get crushed by beginner players just going off of instinct. I read a long thread about that recently on the Smash Bros reddit, a ton of people get stuck in that chasm and the only way out is insane practice and commitment.

Its just a fun game tho, just because there is a very high skill ceiling doesn't mean you have to get super good to have fun.

Yep I experienced this with CSGO. CS's skill ceiling is insane. After logging almost 2000 hours in that game I've learn it takes years to learned and perfect the fundamentals to truly become a great player. Smash and CS are vastly different games but they are similar in the sense that there are so many casual players who aren't trying to become "great" players and just want to have a good time. And I'm somewhere in the middle of that. I constantly want to improve but I need to be having a heck of a good time in the process.

Lmao that was always my go-to, but then I had friends point out that Nintendo nerfed the damage done by it somewhere around Melee or Brawl

I have a friend who does this, but she still hasn't figured out that you can grab Kirby while he's in rock mode

It had to of been Brawl. (I’ve mained Kirby for every iteration of this game). It seems like they’ve nerfed some aspects in ultimate but I’ve found myself actually using his hammer more than I ever have.

Edit: I think this will be the first iteration in which he’s not my main.

Tbf CPU level 6-7 is probably where the average player is at, skillwise. They do enough derps to mimic misclicks but not enough to make you feel like you're playing against a pro player lol

God forbid anyone play vs CPU level 9 inkling that shit was hideous, I felt like curling up in a ball and crying afterwards
