I have no idea how the whole spirit system works, or some of the other aspects of the game. I haven’t played a smash since melee. Will world of light walk me through these things and teach me? Or is there a better way to do it?

 

spirits only matter for world of light (or if you choose to turn them on). World of light also does a decent job explaining how they work.

 

They do some REALLY cool stuff with the fights in World of Light. The Valoo fight against giant charizard on top of a volcano warmed my heart.

So what modes have people generally been going with in these early stages while unlocking stuff? This is the first Smash I've owned and haven't played one since dabbling a bit with the Wii one in my university dorms.

 

I already have all of my mains so I really don’t care about unlocking everyone asap.

But if you want to practice while unlocking, Classic mode seems like a good place to start with.

 

This is making me realize how many characters I just didn't use in the last Smash

 

Actually can’t believe how much fun I’m having with World of Light. Haven’t stopped playing all day. This is the most fun I’ve ever had with a smash game.

 

After 36 hours, I still can't short hop reliably, but the short hop+attack simultaneously thing has been a godsend. But it does still mean I can't do empty short hops consistently right now, which eats a bag.

I think I'm slowly getting my shit together again. It's hard to tell. I've had this issue since Smash 4 where I play like garbage against bad players, but play well against good ones.

Ftr, for anyone who's interested the best place I've way to practice 1v1s is to choose "Glorious Smashers" as an option in the Battle Arena. Better players, smaller rooms, thus shorter wait times, and plus I've found a bunch of rooms with just one person in them, so it was just me alone in a room with another guy the way god intended.

Okay, here is my pitch. I can move things around depending on everyone's availability but I'm planning to post the brackets tomorrow afternoon, if no one has any concerns regarding the rules. Like I said, it's my first time hosting a Smash tournament, so suggest rule changes if something doesn't seem fair. Also I was thinking of giving a reward for the winner like an eshop card, but since everyone is just messing around so far I'd probably just save it for the next tourneys (if we ever have them consistently)

- 3 Stocks
- 8 minutes
- Items are turned to off and none

Stages:
Match 1 - Battlefield
Matches 2 and up - Loser of last match gets to pick from the following: Battlefield, Final Destination, Smashville, Town & City and Fountain of Dreams

Characters:
Players may change characters anytime between matches as long as they have not entered the wrestling rink for that match.

Deadline for each game:
1 week, after the start date. But if all the players finish their games we will proceed with the next round. Extension for a few days can be requested.
