buying the GameCube controllers today

 

GameCube controllers only and forever.

 

GameCube is the best controller. The N64 is a mess.

 

It does. I’m not sure I’ll play in handheld unless a friend and I both use our Switch’s for local switch crossplay.

 

Total noob here (although I did play Smash on N64 and briefly on WiiU):

Is there a good guide to read about how this game differs/operates etc from past versions? I saw something about "spirits"?

Also, I bought the standard game on Amazon but saw two other, more expensive bundles, but still wasn't quite sure what they included after reading it.

 

Bundles just have extra controllers and maybe a dock, no in game goodies. There is a season pass for DLC fighters though.

 

Does that mean I pay and get access to new character downloads over the next few months? The concept of season pass is still kinda lost on me but I've had a Switch since it came out and basically only play Mario Kart.

 

This season pass runs through to Feb 2020 and you get 5 downloadable characters and 5 stages with music over the course of it - it's just a cheaper option opposed to buying all 5 characters individually. There's another downloadable character, Piranha Plant, who you can redeem before Jan 31st by either redeeming your gold points on your system by going into the game's settings on the switch home screen or by downloading the game and clicking the link on the email you receive afterwards.

 

Also just saw this on Reddit, someone went out of their way to make a fake manual for Ultimate and it has a bunch of current and new mechanics in it, alongside new modes etc - Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Instruction Manual

 

By “echo fighter” do they mean like Mario and Dr. Mario or do they mean how you can swap out Bowser Jr. with his siblings and it will still be the same?

 

It's a bit strange tbh - Richter and Daisy for example are effectively the same character as their counterparts with some palette swaps and different voice acting, whereas Ken has some relatively Dr Mario-esque differences in his kit, and Chrom has Ike's Up B despite being a Roy echo. Mostly they have the same weight & run speed, apart from Ken, who is faster than Ryu.

 

Anyone know when the review embargo lifts?

Also ordered some new Gamecube controllers. Pre-ordered them a while ago and put the money down. But can't afford the game itself until the end of the month now..

 

If the Smash 4 thread was any indication, the odds are against it.

Yeah. The one I bought was a Wii U adapter too and it works for the switch as well
