I would've really liked Incineroar tbh

 

All I want is a game with the smash engine that has every possible Pokémon as a playable character where you can choose their move set. It’s not that complicated.

 

Would be kind of bummed about no Skull Kid, but at the same time, That is more characters than I thought there would be so thats cool. Either way, Im hyped to find out the rest.

Another possible point for this leak: I THOUGHT that King K Rool was previously unused because Rare still owned the character. If they were able to get one Rare character, maybe they went for a second as well?

 

We have Ridley and King K. Rool. Sakurai is definitely listening to the people.

I get what you're saying and where you're coming from and it's a bummer it won't ever happen, but Smash has more than enough representation from that franchise.

 

Smashboards has overanalyzed the fuck out of the empty Battlefield image and there are some discrepancies between it and the official artwork. So, the first seed of doubt has formally been planted.

 

My first seed of doubt was that it was a leak

 

Counterpoints to that analysis are popping up now too, though. Minor artwork discrepancies have appeared before in official renders. I'm hopeful that it's real but we have absolutely no way of truly knowing until the next direct really

 

Been following this leak all day and the story is just getting more mental by the second

Was mostly reading reddit threads on the subject, decided to take the dive and read up on it on GameFAQs too and immediately regretted it

That Wendy's leak is insane tho, out of all the footage they could've used they used a clip where an unrevealed item spawns that has ties to a character that had potentially leaked just the day before...

 

So for anyone not following the leak, still no one knows what the actual fuck is going on. There are "insiders" on both sides of this, but the only one whose comments I'm compelled to link to are that of the owner of NintendoLife:

Says unequivocally the banner is fake. Bizarrely, though, says he can't disconfirm the characters. I'm currently at a loss how he could know the former with certainty but not the latter.

 

I mean, the majority of the characters seem plausible and if people have seen other official art or release materials that completely debunks the validity of this leak. We'll know soon anyway.

 

But the only aspect of the leak he's addressing is the physical materials themselves, not the characters. The only thing I can conceive of that would cause him to come to that conclusion is if he knows ACP-PLV isn't where these particular pieces are being printed. Which, if so, seems like such an incredibly strange thing to stay silent about.

Though I do I find myself heavily leaning towards #TeamFake right now, I wouldn't be surprised if it still ends up being real and all these people were just thoroughly in the dark.

 

I'm 99% that it's real myself, there's just so many factors that would've had to go into it that would've been an absolutely absurd amount of effort (such as convincing his company to let him print off a fake banner for a video game's roster that he would've had to have spent an inordinate amount of time on, moving characters around plus revealing previously hidden portions of the moved character's bodies for example).

It's also very suspicious that a lot of insiders with ties to Nintendo aren't talking about it or have immediately dismissed it without much discussion - makes me think damage control via silence. Seems more like people have been told to say it's fake than actually believing it's fake IMO.

I'll be honest though, if it is fake, hats off to the guy for making such an insane and complicated web of lies. I'd be more impressed than angry hahaha

 

i don’t think Nintendo and Nintendo-affiliated influencers being reluctant to comment means anything whatsoever. they are getting free word-of-mouth on their biggest holiday boon in the adult demo ad nauseum over this. saying anything to deny it would crush that hype unless they immediately had something to toss out there to get people excited, so let the chatter happen for a while longer and then put out a Direct.

 

The amount of effort does nothing to prove it's real in my eyes. People online are notorious for putting in tremendous amounts of effort and time just to mess with people or create dumb things. If I wanted to fool people, I'd totally put in a bunch of effort.

 

There's so many small things in it like minor character movements to the left or right that would take an obscene amount of effort to create or repaint if you're working without the original assets is what gets me about it. This isn't just a bunch of effort - it's borderline insanity levels of work. That's why, if it does turn out to be fake, that I'll genuinely just be impressed.

Also I really just can't imagine this 50 year old guy going into his work and being like "hey guys can I use a bunch of expensive company resources to mess with some people on the internet" lol but who knows. The more I talk about this the more I'm expecting to be proven wrong here hah

Yeah you're right on Nintendo's side, they have more than enough reason to keep quiet about it - It's just stuff like gamexplain immediately dismissing the leak and a lot of apparent insiders saying that it's fake too but not providing any reasoning that gets my eyebrows raised. Suppose it's pretty easily explained by them having seen or heard evidence from their sources to the contrary though rather than being told to keep quiet

 

All in all tho I think we can all agree that we need a smash direct asap
