It used to be based around I think amount of character movement, so the easy cheat was to pick sonic on FD and just run back and forth for like a couple minutes in VS then die and it would trigger the unlock battle, but I believe that was patched out. Not sure.

There is. Play classic mode. Each of the original 8 characters have a “branch” of characters to unlock

If you do basic fights with friends or the CPU then you unlock a fighter every 10 minutes

 

Sakurai admitted that Nintendo made him put Byleth in and that there are too many FE characters

i didn't realize i haven't visited this thread since January and saw this post and got SO excited thinking they announced the 1st fighter for DLC pack 2, lol

and i'd be down for a tourney this Saturday, i'm actually off work!

 

Don't know if there's enough time to organize a whole tourney, but I think I'll be around if you guys wanna get some matches in.

 

should plan it for like two weeks later just to give some people some time to get ready
