Surprised there wasn't a thread already, or why I didn't start one sooner. Diary and How It Feels to Be Something On are near-perfect records. A few years ago they started working on a fifth album but according to Nate Mendel sessions "fell apart" and they broke up again, with only one song being released on a split with Circa Survive.
Been returning to LP2 a lot lately. It's just such a fascinating record, so inscrutable but with so much palpable tension. I love it, sometimes the most.
Ive always given Diary way more time than the others and in fairness the others not much of a chance. Would people agree to just go to their second album next to give it a proper in depth listen?
yeah, probably, although I would say that it is the most difficult of the four to get into. How It Feels To Be Something On might hook you a little easier.
LP2 is my favorite from them. Love this band so much. Really wish I saw Jeremy when he came to Philly not too long ago. Not only is his solo stuff great, he played both Friday and In Circles.
I listened to all four records today so I'm going to stupidly rank my top ten favorite songs. Choosing a favorite record is meaningless because it tends to cycle 1. 8 2. In Circles 3. Pillars 4. Seven 5. Friday 6. Rain Song 7. J'Nuh 8. Song About an Angel 9. Days Were Golden 10. The Rising Tide
Great list. I'd have to put a lot of thought in making a top ten list for this band, but I could definitely say 5/4 would be near the top. That song is breath taking
In making that list I wanted to say that the first three songs on Diary are overrated and not include them but...I couldn't. Those songs are incredible and deserve all the credit they get haha.
How It Feels To Be Something On getting a vinyl reissue Sunny Day Real Estate - How It Feels to Be Something On
I already have an OG copy of How It Feels..., but I couldn't resist going in for the repress. All-time top 10 favourite record of mine (though LP2 and Diary aren't far behind). Holding out for a repress of The Rising Tide now.
ICYMI: You can still preorder Jeremy's new solo album through Pledge music. The rewards include vinyl pressings of this new album & the first domestic press of OK Bear (with new artwork). Now if only he'd press World Waits/The Missing Link
Listened to the Rising Tide for the first time yesterday and I am hooked. Snibe and Killed by an Angel are standouts so far
I've always felt The Rising Tide was a bit inconsistent, but Killed by an Angel, One and Snibe are great songs.
