Sunny Day Real Estate reportedly will be doing a reunion tour:

Influential emo band Sunny Day Real Estate is reuniting for the first time in 12 years for shows this spring, but without original bassist Nate Mendel, SPIN has learned. According to people familiar with the situation, this incarnation of the group will include original vocalist/guitarist Jeremy Enigk, guitarist Dan Hoerner and drummer William Goldsmith playing with as-yet-unnamed additional musicians. No additional details were available and group members were unavailable for comment.

This should be getting the attention WWWY fest received last week.

Absolutely agree with you! Though it's not meme-worthy and it's not gonna peak like that, but hopefully it will gain traction and be a success, could be amazing if it brings some new music from them as well.

    No Nate Mendel.

Maybe the story of Dave Grohl being an asshole and holding back their new album is true?

Well, maybe partially it could have been one of the aspects, but how could it hold any water now in the current times?

I imagine the Foos keep him pretty damn busy.

I'd rather see SDR in a small club than that festival.

I'd also think Dave Grohl wouldn't really go out of his way at all, it's just that Foo Fighters is a high profile band with lots of events and responsibilities. But seriously, would be amazing to get some new music, or new-old for that matter.

Eh...not really. No knock against SDRE or WWWY fest but WWWY has the scale and magnitude in terms of lineup and excitement. SDRE will excite a small niche of people but they aren't going to be playing 20-30k venues when they reunite.

I think almost every current member of the Foo Fighters does some sort of side project so I can't imagine why Dave Grohl would get in the way of a SDRE album being released, especially since he was/is a fan of the band.

Well yeah, I'd change that for "this should be getting the same level of excitement" rather than "attention", cause it's just something else completely, but hopefully people will jump on it too.

As for "Foo Fighters vs. SDRE" I think it's weird and so far I've already seen so many stupid comments under articles - at least it is something people can talk about and put some light on all of them hahh.

I didn't post this because I'm under the delusion that they ever had the same type of fanbase as the big names on that festival. Nor do I wanna knock it because I myself am going and am super pumped for that lineup. My post means that in a perfect world where bands that influenced those who came after and got much bigger, the forebears would get the love and respect they deserve, too.

I remember seeing a local ad for SDRE's last UK tour when I was doing a study-abroad program in London during law school.

I've now been a lawyer for a full decade.

  18. I can't wait to see them and really hope this leads to new materials, but I'm just happy to know I will hear some of my favorite songs of all time live.

I remember having tickets and skipping it to go to my friends birthday instead. Really regret not going!
