Ghosts of the Great Highway is my favorite album ever. April took me some time to get into, but it's also very beautiful and I listen to it before bed often.

Old Ramon is my favorite Red House Painters album. It and Songs For a Blue Guitar are the closest to early Sun Kil Moon material.

April is his best. Benji is second. Both are better than Red House Painters.

 

his record with jesu is up there with the best

and the last SKM solo was amazing too

I realize it's not for everyone, but the ultra confessional approach makes me feel a certain way - not something easy to pull off

If you notice @Horrorca he bumped both his double LP release date and the Jesu/SKM new LP up. Both were slated to be in March, now this one is February and the J/SKM is May 5th :D

the closest he got to approaching the self-titled rollercoaster red house painters record was sun kil moon's ghosts of the great highway. imo those are his absolute pinnacles.

prob in a minority here in that i pretty much universally loathe his recent total brain dump records (perils from the sea is good, benji has a few good songs, almost everything else is nonsense)

missing his show last year because of work broke my heart - I've never seen him live

 

I saw him live five years ago in an intimate setting and it was incredible.

Watching him play solo and close with Have You Forgotten was an incredible experience

 

I don't really care for most of this guy's catalogue, or his general grump-middle-aged-guy-who-doesn't-give-a-shit schtick. Love 'Benji' and that record with Jesu from last year, though.
