I see the majority of people here aren't fans of Mark and I get that (I actually love his "old man rambles about his day" phase) but he quietly released a full length with Petra Haden last month and it's really good. Still a lot of him just rambling about a day in his life but I think Petra kind of reigns him in a bit.
He put out another new album last week (more day in the life rambling stuff), I'm still listening to it for the first time but this song is pretty beautiful
Ya got me to listen to it with that comment. Vocally/lyrically feels like a midpoint between his rambling style and the old stuff. Wish he would just fully return to singing but this is a step up I suppose. Not a fan of the instrumentation though.
I actually don’t love the new song, but the album he released with Ben Boye and Jim White earlier this year is my favorite album of the year. I listen to it almost every night. Highly recommend it.
Actually take back what I previously said, I didn't love The Johnny Cash Trail but Lemon Balm is fantastic
pretty sure Admiral Fell Promises turns 10 this week. crazy! "You Are My Sun" is one of the most beautiful Koz songs, and I think the album as a whole is very under-appreciated
I'm not really a live records guy but I listen to Lost Verses Live more than a lot of his studio records
Been listening to the Mark Kozelek - Nights LP on Spotify. Some of my favorite versions of those late RHP/early SKM songs.
what's everyone's top 3 koz records? mine are Red House Painters I Benji Songs for a Blue Guitar honorable mentions are April and Ghosts of the Great Highway
1. Ghosts of the Great Highway 2. Old Ramon 3. Benji Honorable mentions for April, Songs For a Blue Guitar, and Red House Painters 1.
1. Mark Kozelek with Ben Boye and Jim White 2 2. I Also Want To Die In New Orleans 3. This Is My Dinner
impossible to choose 3 down colorful hill rollercoaster album ghosts benji common as light april are all tier one albums imo
I only really like Benji and then have a morbid curiosity about every record he’s made since without explicitly liking them.
I really can't recommend that album with Ben Boye and Jim White enough. It's not as "talky" as his other spoken word stuff, it's incredibly relaxing. Throw it on at night while sitting by a fire or something, just zone out.
