Plus, Deryck is Sum 41. He built it with his songs, so he should be able to exploit the name and the brand however he pleases. And jumping on stage with Good Charlotte and Avril keeps the name out there without having to do all the things that come with keeping a band out there.
Hard agree….hes the soul of SUM41 and I’m happy for him to capitalize on the band name as much as possible.
The guy spent his entire life in the band, practically died because of it, and would probably still be doing it if he weren’t physically unable to do so. Why the heck should he “start from scratch”?
Could have just kept the band going on a low flame then, you can put out an acoustic album and not tour as Sum 41 too. Like Good Charlotte barely does anything and if they do it is regularly just the twins, but the other guys are still in the band and, one assumes, still get paid.
To be fair I don’t know their situation, so can’t really judge, maybe they all agreed on this. All am saying is that it feels a little weird TO ME with the information I do have.
It's also a little weird to me to sunset the band and then relaunch other Sum 41 things by yourself but I don't really care at the end of the day
Different bands have different levels of collaboration Deryck very much WAS Sum 41, wrote all the songs, produced all their latter records As long as he's not screwing others out of their cut
he released an acoustic version of blood in my eyes years ago that i still play heavily. between chuck, SCM, and the solo series he did online during covid, i don't doubt at all that there's an album's worth of acoustics to release. i want it all.
I wish he would do more of the sum 41 deep dives like when he first started the channel. I like hearing about the song, recording, and other interesting things about the process. He should also do some stuff about the newer albums since he has talked about not listening to them.
