from the caption: The last EVER Sum 41 show is OVER. I did not go to the show but the whole thing inspired me take a trip down memory lane. I sat down and listened to every Sum 41 album that I performed on and picked my favourites from Least to the Best. Being in Sum 41 was a tremendous honour and I am proud to have played my part. I'm wishing happiness and continued success to my pals Deryck, Cone, Brownsound, Brown Tom and Frank.
short video, 9 minutes. i commented this to him: if you are ever bored and have a day, you should jam all the sum albums you didn't play on and comment and review those albums, that would be fun to see what you think of them, maybe what you would have played differently from frank, etc. i would love to hear your opinions AND if one song really jumps out at you maybe learn it and play it on the drums for us? just an idea, glad you are back safe at home, have a great year!!!
Underclass Hero is an interesting in-between record. Deryck's biography seemed to lay the blame on the record label confusing radio programmers with what the first single actually was (Underclass Hero or Walking Disaster) but I don't think really think that was the issue. That type of music was seen as a bit passe at the time with the likes of the more theatrical MCR, Fall Out Boy and Panic At The Disco overtaking the scene. Additionally, most modern rock radio stations were in the process of shuttering and the listener-bases had splintered off so there just weren't the same opportunities and it was per-poptimism so all the taste-makers were bending over backwards to hype various jangly indie rock releases. Perfect storm of just getting lost in the label shuffle and a lot of their fanbase growing up and moving on to other genres.
Have been revisiting the entire Sum 41 catalogue, and I never properly listened to 13 Voices back in the day (I just don't think I gave it a chance) but there are some really really good songs on there. The title track in particular feels like a throwback to Chuck. The only thing I dislike is the (Death to POP) in the title of God Save Us All, it feels quite unnecessary
Twisted By Design might be one of the best songs Deryck has written imo. Fake My Own Death was a great comeback single and still a banger.
