stevo32, former drummer of sum 41, current drummer of his basement just had his mind blown! he replied to me on YouTube the other day, he's gonna look into the other two lost chuck songs!
I totally get it in a way since a band like this records so many songs over the course of their career, but at the same time it's kind of funny to me that there are some songs they seem to have little to no clue about. Love seeing this kind of stuff though.
Well after reading deryck’s new book. A lot of drugs and alcohol were consumed by the original 4 during the album years 2000-04 so I’m not surprised but it still is funny! now, when bands do like album tours, and end up playing songs that they never ever played before they just recorded it and that was it. That’s gotta be a mindfuck like 10 or 20 years later trying to learn the song you only played once or twice in the studio lol
Noots' chorus is so anthemic it's wild it didn't make it onto the album and thus was never played live until this outing. Guess they should make it a staple on their reunion tour
stevo mentioned on YouTube its cool when songs like that find their way somehow, especially two decades later! deryck mentioned about underclass hero being a flop in the label eyes because it only spawned 2 singles that didn't do that much for them 'underclass hero' & 'walking disaster' but someone at their label or agent contacted them telling them that 'with me' was selling a shitload on iTunes, people were just buying the one song so he suggested they make a music video for it and they got a third hit off underclass in 2008.
Except he also said there was so much change within the label at that point that nobody gave a crap about pushing it as a single, and it essentially lost its momentum. Could have been much bigger with a proper push.
Checked out the album, not bad. Some good stuff on there for sure, but a couple of the songs sounded very similar.
I like Noots for sure (and love Chuck overall), but man that intro is the most "let's write a sum 41 song" intro I could ever imagine
My "Sum 41 would be better if they weren't Sum 41" shirt has people asking a lot of questions already answered by my shirt.
To be much more specific, it reminds me so much of Still Waiting. Like when I listened to it earlier to refresh my memory of which song it was, my mind defaulted to expecting the "drop dead" line to begin after the drum fill. Everyone is welcome to disagree with me though, I have silly thoughts all the time.
