Trying to remember what Deryck said about it when they played at Slam Dunk... thought he said they had but could be wrong EDIT: "Almost done"
They're not. They weren't done before the first leg of the Simple Plan tour and they've been on the road basically nonstop since then. Then go into another leg in a few weeks.
I love & prefer their heavier side but UH has a special place in my heart. I don't care how simplistic it is, I think the songs are catchy and fun. It's a very nostalgic album that helped me through tougher times in my teens.
I remember when Underclass Hero came out, I was annoyed that the lead single was a reworked version of a bonus track from Chuck. I also was annoyed in general that they went away from the style they had on Chuck. In retrospect, it was kind of dumb, and the album has grown on me since, now that I'm more removed from my bias.
I never really was upset about a change in direction or sound as much as I just thought (and still do) that the songs on the album are simply not that great
I still think they're really good songs & the album musically paved the way for SBM which I appreciate. I'm looking forward to the new (double) album next year & getting to hear different sides of their sound. I love their heavier side but it will be nice to have them explore the heavier stuff alongside the more pop-oriented stuff. Hopefully the songs they've written hold up, I believe they have it in them to make a good double album.
I know it gets tons of flack, but I love UH a lot. I think it’s a solid pop punk album, even if it does sound like Green Day and it’s the same chord progressions haha. Excellent summer album for me. It’s also my wife’s favorite Sum 41 album, who loves the hell out of this band.
Was my first sum 41 album i got to experience on release day as a fan, so it will always be special for that. I also do love the style of the album so it ranks near the top for me for that reason as well.
Underclass Hero will always have a special place for me. It reminds me of that last summer before high school, hanging out with my first real crush as an incredibly awkward boy, bonfires with the boys with no idea what was coming.
Before the whole tweet loaded, I saw “15 years ago today” and thought “oh that has to be Does This Look Infected?” this is definitely the first anniversary to make me feel truly old. Solid album, has a ton of filler and even repeated melodies within the same album, but 12 year old me adored it and there are a few songs I still adore.
