Loving this song! Apparently it was produced (or co produced) by Mike Green, which makes sense since he's worked with more of the recent pop punk bands.
Band signed to Rise. No mention of the album release yet. Grammy-nominated band Sum 41 make a boisterous return with “Landmines”, their newest single and first release on Rise Records. “Landmines” is a testament of going to hell and back for the ones that matter – vocalist Deryck Whibley paints a picture of dodging shrapnel and smoke, but valiantly holding on to the ones you love. The chorus is an instant crowd-pleaser with anthemic chants that pull a room together, glued by drum fills that shake the ground as hard as the metaphorical landmines. The track is paired alongside a brand new music video that finds the band transforming prom from the class of 1998 into a raucous rock show-turned-foodfight, thrusting Sum 41 and their fans back to the early days of their career. Although Sum 41 may have announced the impending closing of their chapter, “Landmines” proves that the pop punk legends are going out with a bang. “Landmines” is available to stream now at Sum 41 - Landmines and on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/sum41 "When I wrote Landmines I had no intention of writing an old school “pop punk” song. It just came out really quickly and I knew right away that this song felt special to me,” shares Whibley. Next month, Sum 41 will be performing on October 21 and October 22 at When We Were Young in Las Vegas, Nevada. The band is also performing a set at a sold-out When We Were Young Sideshow on October 20 at Brooklyn Bowl alongside Bowling For Soup, Plain White T’s, Your Broken Hero, and more. Looking back at the band’s storied 27 year career, Sum 41 has firmly cemented their place in rock history with over 15 million records sold worldwide, multiple Billboard Charting releases, a Grammy Award nomination, 2 Juno Awards (7 nominations), a Kerrang! Award in 2002, multiple Alternative Press Music Awards, and countless other accolades.
I hate to be negative, but I found this song to be pretty meh... Which is frustrating because I want to enjoy this song (like everyone else is), but I'm just not connecting with it. Music video was really creative and cool how they also did nostalgia vibes like blink did with OMT. Just bummed I'm not into the song, but happy for everyone else that's able to connect to it.
Pretty much how I feel. Songs cool but I dunno, vocals don't seem to pack the same punch they once did
I saw similar comments about edging when it first came out. For me, neither are groundbreaking, but fun as heck songs Ill play over and over.
he looks a bit like Brandon Flowers in this haha. video is juvenile but who cares? the song is perfect and I'm going to run it into the ground.
Wow this was better than I expected. Love how they managed to bring back that summery pop-punk sound while keeping some urgency.
I haven't liked any Sum 41 songs since Screaming Bloody Murder, I tried so many times but really hated the choruses on all of the last two records. But this is rad! Sad they're ending but if this is the sound they are going out on then I will be here to celebrate.
Big fan of the song but compared to the last album (favorite of theirs) its a step back. Very excited to hear what hell sounds like.
Obsessed with this one. Got a spin in the car, at the gym, and in the office today. Such a good pop punk track
The song itself is good, not great imo, but it just makes me so happy that they're even tackling this sound again, it didn't really occur to me until right now that they haven't really released a pop-punk song since like 2007
I started a discography run through yesterday and Half Hour of Power is still so fucking great. The instrumental tracks are killer, really what made this band stand apart. The fucking SKA breakdown in Max Headroom, THT going HARD, the iconic metal/rap What We're All About... and the fact that Makes No Difference is such an iconic Sum 41 song.... can;t say enough good things about this album, so eclectic for just 30 minutes, the best introduction to them, the best mix of fun and creative and impressive.
Sometimes I'm sad Makes No Difference wasn't part of All Killer No Filler. It deserved to be a hit like In Too Deep, Fat Lip or Motivation
