Sum 41 talk with Rolling Stone about their upcoming double album, Heaven and Hell: What came out of this creative renaissance was Heaven and Hell. The first part of the two-part LP, known as “Heaven,” taps back into the current nostalgia surrounding pop-punk — a style Whibley started writing in before it became a thing again: “When that happened, I was like, ‘What kind of luck is that?’ ” he says. The album’s second, heavier side (“Hell”) features metallic tracks closer to the band’s most recent sound. “As I listened to almost all of it, it just kind of dawned on me,” he recalls. “‘Did I just make a double record by accident?’ “ more Not all embedded content is displayed here. This is rad to hear! They do the "metallic pop-punk" thing pretty okay, but they really excel at that easy-breezy, NOFX-lite vibe they had with All Killer.
Hope the heavier side is more Chuck and less Screaming Bloody Murder since I never liked that album and Chucks their best album lol.
Fuck. Yes. Double albums are always tough to really pull off but knowing it's two different genres, both of which the band has pulled off well in the past, gives me hope.
Order in Decline was a really great album blending their pop-punk and metal influences. Excited to see what Deryck has in store next.
I was wondering the same thing. I'm assuming they just don't have one yet. I'd imagine we get a single ahead of the Simple Plan co-headliner. So I'd guess the "official" roll-out (e.g., a single release) will probably start sometime within the next month.
This has me super excited. I was hoping they would do something different after 13 Voices and Order in Decline. I love this idea because I feel like they can actually pull it off.
Not only do I get a Simple Plan/Sum 41 tour, I get new albums from both too! This year is shaping up to be great for music!
I've been wanting them to release another pop punk album (or even ep) for fun so I'm excited to check this out. That being said, it's also cool that they have metal stuff for the people into the more metal side of Sum 41.
Most fans are pretty one-sided or vocal about which style they prefer most from Sum 41, but I've always equally enjoyed both styles so this is perfect for the (huge) fan that I am! I also love the concept of a double album the way they are doing it - it had me as soon as I read the album title "Heaven and Hell".
Me too! If "Heaven" is along the lines of "all killer, no filler" and "Underclass Hero". And "Hell" has a "Chuck" "Screaming Bloody Murder" and "13 Voices" I personally think it'll be one of there best records without hearing a song yet haha but I have a good feeling and a lot of hope that they get it right and don't pull a green day by just throwing a bunch of songs that were ehhh together. I can't wait!!
I couldn't be more excited for this record. The second I read the titles "Heaven" and "Hell" I was sold. I have a lot of faith in sum 41 and specifically Deryck, because he really takes his time with each song individually, and especially being in lockdown for so long. I think this is gonna be there masterpiece. I'm probably getting ahead of myself but I have a lot of faith and believe there Gunna pull it off unlike green day. When green day did "Uno" "Dos" "Tre" each album had a different vibe but it felt like they just threw shit together but that's just one silly punks view on the matter lol I can't wait either way! New sum 41 gives me tingly feeling in my no no place
This was the original plan for the Underclass Hero record, that's really cool that it sounds like they're going to do it this time.
I felt like a Sum 41 double album would more of a drag by now, but I got excited right away knowing it's tackled throughout 2 different genres. Quite cool! and they don't need any excuses with "writing the pop punk side before it got popular again", makes no difference to me ;u
Excited to hear this thing, dig them heavier. I hope it's their style pop punk and not so much get-z pop punk also...
