Oh thanks! Pretty good quality for a demo. Kinda hard to distance myself from the love of the original but this one is cool too.
I really like Open Your Eyes and always have. I also think I'm Not the One is really underrated and one of my favorites from Chuck.
oh man, never thought about it but I'm thinking so. The bridge in We're All the Blame is pretty heavy too but not sure which is heavier. What does everyone else think?
Ha, well this didn't sound great to me and now that I'm listening to the album, I can confirm I'm not big on it at all. Almost word for word what I was coming in to say.
Oh no, no, no, no. Don't get me wrong, I like all eras of this band's career enough, but that AKNF (and DTLI to some degree) era was something special. They were writing catchy as all hell pop punk tunes while maintaining this sort of whimsical obsession with their metal fandom. They sort of lost that identity and dug into their metal love. I still like their darker/serious side, but some charm was sacrificed for sure. I don't expect them to replicate the AKNF era or anything, I don't even necessarily want that, but there's some magic from that time I wish they could tap into again.
Angels with dirty faces, no reason, welcome to hell, Mr. Amsterdam (so happy I got to see them open up with this song a long time ago), no brains. My top 5 Sum songs
Was that right after they released DTLI? I saw them tour with The starting line and they opened with that song too. Wonder if it was the same tour
I'll also add: Goddamn I'm Dead Again is my favorite song on 13 Voices. My reasoning sort of lies within my comment about the AKNF era of this band - The last half of the song is sort of this indulgent metal jam session. I almost laughed hearing it, but in a good way. It just sounded fun. So, again, the darker/serious Sum 41 can still tap into that side of their songwriting and I'll likely love it every time.
I can't relate to a Sum fan that wants the band to regress back to their teenage sound. I mean.. they kind of did with Underclass Hero and even Deryck admits it's their worst record cause it pretty much is. Chuck, DTLI, SBM, and 13 Voices are all such better records on every level in my opinion.
Don't get me wrong, I love songs off AKNF, but I would hate for the band to try and go down that road 15 years later lol.
I will say I like the more fun sounding songs best, like No Reason and Welcome to Hell. Even if we disagree on which sound is best, I respect your passion Which Eagles song? My mind is racing trying to place it. Bingo
I don't love any of their records front to back, but Underclass Hero is my favorite of the bunch. Just a matter of them doing that sound better than the heavier style, imo. That's not to say I dislike the previous heavier records, of course. I don't mind when they go that direction if it's good, I just don't think this one is.
