The band's 6th album is out this year via Hopless. 1."A Murder of Crows (You're All Dead to Me)" 2. "Goddamn I'm Dead Again" 3. "Fake My Own Death" 4. "Breaking the Chain" 5. "There Will Be Blood" 6. "13 Voices" 7. "War Mary" 8. "God Save Us All (Death to POP)" 9. "The Fall and the Rise" 10. "Twisted by Design"
Sounds like it's going to be a pretty intense/heavy record (based solely off the song titles/first single). Not a fan of the production on the song, tbh. Right direction sonically though.
Didn't catch when the track listing initially came out that dead/death pops up in 4 song titles, I'm expecting this record to be very dark lyrically.
I held off on going to Warped this year to see Sum because I knew they'd be touring their new album a few months after. Joke's on me though, they're not coming to Denver on this tour :(
Kind of surprised this is the official first single. Not sure if I'm feeling it compared to "Fake My Own Death." I'm expecting most of the songs to work better I'm context of the album.
so we have officially picked the first single now. this song is called “war”. i picked this song because of it’s importance to me. i feel this song literally saved my life. i was at my absolute lowest point of what seemed like a never ending recovery. i was at a tipping point where i could have easily just given up and went back to my old ways of alcohol abuse which would’ve ended up killing me, which at the time felt like a better option. when all of a sudden, in mid thought, these lyrics sort of appeared in my head and i grabbed a pencil and paper instead of a bottle and started writing. when i read it back to myself i realized i had written words that i would need to live up to if i wanted to survive. whenever i had any thoughts of giving up i would read these lyrics myself to remind me that i need to keep fighting harder and what it was exactly i was fighting for. - deryck
It's not bad, definitely a bit generic for Sum 41 ballads haha, but glad Deryck feels so strongly about it. Anywhoo, it also might be the smartest choice for wide appeal, sounds kinda Green Day ballad-y also, which we all know are often hits
Good but not great imo (though the video and meaning are pretty powerful). Agree that it's pretty typical for a slow Sum 41 song, I thought it sounded like a mix of There's No Solution and Pieces
I agree that it’s a bit on the generic side, but it’s certainly likable and I really like that it has meaning for Deryck. I’m just glad these guys are back and active again.
Seems like Hopeless is dropping the ball with marketing again for this album. The release is next week, and I'm barely seeing anything about it online.
I was actually thinking about this the other day. I haven't seen anything about this album since War was released.
