I absolutely would not have wanted that sort of build up for a Suicide-Squad movie, that is overkill in every sense of the word. I don't want to be a part of another 5+ years of films building to a zenith, the MCU is cool; I don't need to see the exact same world building with DC.
Also how are foggy old people and those that don't follow the industry relevant to the conversation at all? We are discussing pop-culture, Jared Leto is well known within the relevant circles.
Jared Leto is one of the most overrated actors working. He gets some acclaim because he physically exerts himself and transforms his body and mimics appearances, but he is so hollow in all his roles that his characters are empty surface details. It actually works well in Requiem for a Dream and American Psycho, where the empty, hollow, white guy is kind of the point of the character, but in Dallas Buyers Club or anything else, it's so unengaging and shallow.
Besides all that you listed, I only know one other movie from the top of my head which is Lord of War. I thought he was good in that. Also Dallas though as well obviously.
The thing that is so obnoxious about him is how much he will self-promote himself and his "method acting" for a superhero movie role that lasts ten minutes. Dallas Buyers Club would have been terrible without him, but every time he is on the screen it just becomes laughable as he tries to turn every line and movement into some profound moment. It is a reason almost all top level directors avoid him.
I've never heard of top level directors avoiding him, source please? So far he's got David Fincher, Darren Aronofsky, Oliver Stone, And David Aryer under his belt so he's not off to a bad start.... Also method acting doesn't seem easy, so why is that a bad thing? It's been reported that he filmed a lot more scenes that were in the movie.
I realize my mistake now.....you're going to reply with "those directors aren't top level" or something like that to justify your point lol. I shouldn't feed the trolls
I think in the future we'll look at him winning an Oscar for that role as a laughable/horrible moment for trans visibility and representation.
A source? Check his IMDb page? Oliver Stone is washed up and David Ayer is not a top-level director. Fincher and Aronofsky both worked with him a long time ago and not since. He mostly appears in movies nobody sees or with hack directors (Ayer).
Method acting is one thing, being a complete edgelord nuisance to everyone on set is another. You don't hear Daniel Day Lewis being braggadacious about his method acting either, so it comes off as trying way too hard. I am interested in seeing another cut of this film, some of the scenes that I've heard described that have been cut seems like they would have been important for the tone of the movie, especially the Harley/Joker relationship. Screams studio interference after the negative reaction to the tone of BvS (Which was nowhere near the top concern for that film).
Eh, probably not. Despite what you thought of the character in the movie, he completely changed himself to become it which is why he won. I really don't think people think that much into it.
What makes you behave in this way? You responded to me and one would have to assume you wanted an explanation.
Everyone on set seemed to enjoy it, didn't hear anyone complaining but I'm sorry it bothered you. Studio interference is totally one of the major BvS issues and from what I hear, this one too in the 3rd act.
See the above. I wanted a real answer. Like Jason said pages back, your views are so fucking off base. You're like a comedy character. He's only done a few movies and I've liked them all for the most part. Seeing everyone forgets how hard it is to get all the moving parts together right to make a good movie, I'd say he's very good at his job.
A modern day Jekyll and Hyde movie with Enchantress would be good The rise of Diablo as a crime boss/gang movie would be good A full movie involving the capturing and psychological examination of the Joker by Harley Quinn and the love that comes from it would be good A heist movie with Boomerang, Deadshot, and the Joker would be good That's not to say the movies would be made decently, they could be written horribly and suck. But there are legitimately good stories that can be told which would of improved SS. Sorry to say, but MCU and DCU are going to be extremely similar in approach, it's inevitable since they are creating the exact same thing, just with different characters with varying abilities. Overkill is what companies should be shooting for, the more money the better. That's the bottom line. Star Wars advertising and marketing was complete overkill last holiday season which they didn't have to do, but did, because people made crazy money off of it. If the product sucks though, overkill is pointless, so there is a balance that needs to be achieved.
You proved my entire point with the directors you picked. You picked two top-level directors who used him over a decade ago (and I said most directors), a guy no one expects much from as a filmmaker anymore, and the guy who made Suicide Squad. Returning the explanation with rudeness is not something that you typically do.
