It just seems weird to go to the effort of pre-ordering a ticket, only to cancel it when there are negative reviews. I can't imagine allowing the opinions of others to hold that much influence over what films I do or don't see. Also, if he didn't want people to discuss his decision, why post about it in a forum which is obviously all about discussion? lol
I really hope he can steer the ship back on track. If WW isn't good though, I don't think he will have the chance to. The DCEU will end after Justice League.
I definitely agree that bringing Snyder in screwed the DCEU right from the start. Like, Marvel had John Favreu and then Joss Whedon, so to compete DC got Snyder? Lol
I think the worst thing about that would be not getting a solo Batman film with Affleck. Or maybe that would still happen?
I don't know much about him or his work. And since his influence won't be seen until next year, my view remains the same. Well, I am seeing Suicide Squad tonight. I think I will enjoy it for what it is, and may become my fav DC film. Edit: fav DCEU film
Ummm, I don't know. Do you think WB delays The Flash and Aquaman in favor of a solo Batman film? Honestly, the way WB has handled this franchise is more upsetting than the movies they are putting out. Why follow up BvS with SS? Is it because a marketing exec at WB decided they needed to put the Joker and Batman in something? They could have made a WW or Flash movie instead that could carry some of the narrative weight of BvS in terms of JL setup.
I think they know what they are doing now with Justice League. They had plenty of time to tweak whatever they needed to after BvS was released to make it into what people want to see. Some of the Flash and Aquaman stuff from the trailer hit the notes the film needs to. It's just going to be weird seeing Batman playing a completely different character from the last film. No way they put the same type of Bats in there.
The ordering of the DC movies has been pretty weird. I'm surprised they haven't been quicker to get a solo Batman film out seeing as he's probably the most popular character in the Justice League. But yeah, Suicide Squad is a really weird choice to follow up BvS with. I think something like this would've worked better: Man of Steel > Solo Batman Movie > BvS > Wonder Woman > The Flash > Justice League
Yea hopefully ww will save this cinematic universe. SS was too hot off the heels of the steamer that was BvS.
Suicide Squad was reactionary. It was basically a response to Deadpool's initial hype train. If the rumors about them having six weeks to prepare a screenplay are true, it makes a lot of sense.
If it's up to me, I keep the DC characters separated and self-contained. The best way to create these shared superhero universes is to simply copy Marvel and I don't think WB wanted to do that. I would have been perfectly happy with a few solo DC films a year that were not attached to each other.
Anyone care to fact check? haha SS was announced quite a while back. GOTG is the more likely the source of any "reaction".
I dunno. They started filming like right after BvS came out. I think it's too early to see any tweaks. But i could be wrong.
I mean, the stuff coming out right now definitely lends to what I'm saying. It was announced in 2014. Test footage/hype train also began in July of 2014. I'm sure that the idea for the film was being tossed around prior, but the Deadpool stuff definitely led to rushing it into production. Nothing about the messy production has been confirmed, but who knows. I think if they had waited and saw what Deadpool ended up turning into, they could have used it as a model going forward. SS to me should be more cartoonish and over the top. Maybe we get that out of a Lobo film. Even that is a huge ehhhhhh though.
The DCU's biggest mistake, even though I get why they did it, was trying to jump right into Justice League. They should've gone the solo movie route like Marvel (Man of Steel, Wonder Woman, Aquaman and saved a solo Batman reboot for last) then jump into the team-up film. I also wouldn't have gone with Snyder for a number of reasons either. But as mentioned above, I have faith in Geoff Johns -- hopefully he can right the ship.
Geoff Johns was a producer and creative consultant on the Green Lantern movie. It's hard for me to get completely behind him.
