One of my favorite live moments of all time was Sufjan closing with that

But having the balloons raining down at the end was super magical so sorry again

 

Illinois was the start of my vinyl collection back in '05. The beginning of the madness. Respect.

 

no doubt...I've been throwing his albums on a lot more lately. specifically Illinois, Seven Swans, and Carrie & Lowell.

 

His three best IMO.

 

I've tried and tried and tried but I just can't get into Age of Adz. Just too all over the place/electronic for my taste. God there are so many crushing songs in those three. Never made the connection, but I really like drama-genre movies too lol.

Also, if I absolutely had to pick my favorite song, on the spot I think it'd be Romulus. Plus I always put that song on if I'm driving past Romulus on 94.

 

I have a few staples that I listen to when it snows in Georgia. One of those staples is Seven Swans. Nothing like freezing in the car, turning on the stereo, and hearing, “If I am alive this time next year.” Don’t know what it is about that album that’s so suited for Winter.

I always think he's so much younger than he really is. Still, writing a legendary album at age 30 is pretty good.

 

Half of The Age of Adz is unreal. The first three songs and last two songs are all probably in my Top 20 Sufjan songs. The middle section of the album really lags for me. It's all okay, but the high points are so high I feel like the rest of the album can't keep up, barring maybe Get Real, Get Right and Vesuvius. I'd put it sixth in his discography, but the five albums above it are all tremendous so that's not saying a lot.

 

ADZ 4 LYFE

 

Adz has some great tunes but it's my least favorite. Just never really connected with it..

Are we counting Planetarium as a Sufjan album? That's probably #3 for me after Carrie and Illinois.

 

"Mercury" is definitely one of my favorite Soof related songs.

Recently decided I love C&L as much as Illinois for completely different reasons. Everything from The Avalanche up is pretty terrific. Didn’t love Planetarium and A Sun Came and Enjoy Your Rabbit are just weird despite a few enjoyable songs.

Shit I'd take Illinois over Christmas (the holiday).

 

Maybe I just really like Christmas.
