21,000 words is no damn joke. Impressive indeed. Not only can I get down with that #1, this top 20 is crazy close to what my own top 20 might look like. Definitely need Romulus in there though.
First Sufjan song I ever heard. Had never heard anything like it before and it's still one of my favorites. Cool list though. Nothing that I super disagree with, although I really love Arnika and wish it was less overlooked.
That list inspired me to go through his entire discography yesterday. Just started doing it again today. Maybe I'll try to make my own list with not nearly as much writing lol Would love a new album from him.
Lists like this are impossible, but I think it's a great choice for #1 even though I could pick a dozen others that are equally deserving. He's an incredible artist.
Hahaha don't get me wrong, it's one of my favorite albums of all time. I still listen to it all the way through but there's stuff in the back half that kinda runs together for me
It's all good, my brother. I just adore every stitch of music on that album. Sufjan isn't one of my all time favorite artists, but that one album is a contender for the best album I've ever heard in general. It's perfect.
It ain’t really fair because the whole album is earth-shatteringly good, but the first half has at least five of his best songs. It’s like, the second half is unbelievable, but the first half is just a few notches more unbelievable. Chicago, Casmir Pulaski Day, John Wayne Gacy, UFO, Jacksonville, Come On! Feel the Illinoise???? What on earth? How do you write that many amazing songs on one album.
Decatur is a classic for me too. The guitar is so hypnotizing. Seriously though.. every song on the first half is so good that it doesn't even seem possible.
Whatever instrument is used for 1.5 seconds in Come On! Feel the Illinoise! at 0:15 into the song gets me so pumped up.
I think I’d have to go with John The Beloved for my favourite. Or something from Carrie & Lowell anyway. What a phenomenal album.
