I like the song, but sometimes I feel like he stretches out his ideas for way too long. He's been doing that whole repeating a line over weird beats thing for so long now. It loses its effectiveness over time. Anyway, I'll see myself out.
Song exceeded my incredibly high expectations. Sounds like Sufjan is almost renouncing his faith.. Very sad but very beautiful. I have worshipped, I have cried I have put my hands in the wounds on your side I have tasted of your blood I have choked on the waters, I abated the flood I am broken, I am beat But I will find my way like a Judas in heat I am fortune, I am free I’m like a fever of light in the land of opportunity
I think this might be one of those classic Sufjan songs where he's talking about two things at the same time. In this case God/Religion and his (former) love of America.
The melody in which he sings "i am broken, i am beat, But I will find my way like a Judas in heat" is already stuck in my head Could be because I've listened to this like 8 times already.
Actually feel the same way. It’s a great song, but it doesn’t feel as groundbreaking. I think it’ll really hit in the album context.
