today: "im not going to listen to this single" Friday: *sobs uncontrollably and hits play the second it is posted*
doesn't really matter to me, it's not like he is releasing a single like a pop or hip hop artist would to try and get radio play or even playlist placement... it's 12 minutes long lol. It's just "a song from the album" that he is releasing first, I don't think the terminology of single quite means the same thing here
I think it more just sucks cause a closer is usually such a big moment in a record listen for me, and I’d say this is gonna be a BIG moment. I kinda like that feeling to look forward to when I’m having a first listen. I’m gonna try REAL hard to hold off
I’m gonna hold off. I know it’s dorky, but I’m one of those people who doesn’t like when closers get released as singles.
I’m sure the second single will be a more accessible track (simply by virtue of not being 12 minutes long)
I’m gonna try to hold off but who knows... temptation is huge I’m also on the hate-having-the-closing-track-as-single club tho
I used to be that way, but I realized that in the end it doesn't really matter to me. If the song is fucking great, it's gonna be fucking great when I listen to the full album also. Plus the context of the whole album will make it feel different anyway.
I don’t even listen to pre release songs often enough for it to matter lol. Nowadays I’ll just listen once and then wait for the album
I found more copies of the clear vinyl for sale at this place called FATBEATS. They allow purchase through PayPal so I'm hoping all goes well but never ordered from them before. Sufjan Stevens - The Ascension (2xLP - Limited Clear Vinyl)
Rough Trade have copies of the clear variant available at the moment I believe? Sufjan Stevens - The Ascension - LPx2+ – Rough Trade
for all of us hoping there was a Carly & a Fleetwood Mac cover :( “All songs performed, recorded, engineered, arranged, mixed and produced by Sufjan Stevens, with additional contributions (*) recorded and engineered by James McAlister and Casey Foubert at their respective home studios. Contributions by Emil Nikolaisen were recorded at Malabar in Oslo, Norway, engineered by himself. Mastered by TW Walsh. All original album art, layout, design and typography by Sufjan Stevens. © 2020 AKR PO Box 1282, Lander, WY 82520 USA.” ;) note it doesn’t say written tho
It’s a 12 minute song. Listen to the first half and it’s like you’ll still have an entire song you haven’t heard at the end of the album.
If you’re going to start listening to the song, listen to the whole song. The song is meant to be heard in full like any song.
Also, I’m just happy we are getting a new album and new solo music at all, so I’m happy with whatever he gives us.
