I mean, this album will almost certainly fall under the category of Weird Sufjan. I can understand why fans of his folk stuff wouldn't be as psyched about this.

Age of Adz wasn't particularly accessible, but the songs released from the new one seem very pop oriented, so I wouldn't be surprised if this was received with a similar amount of positivity as 22, A Million by Bon Iver.

    I do not exist.

I remember when everyone really didn’t like Age of Adz but I think over time people have come round to it. Judging by some varied reactions here or in reviews, this might follow more of that trajectory.

I've been seeing some middling opinions, so this perked me up a bit for release day.

Adz was, and is, my second fav album from that year, only after MBDTF. It's always been the best

I’m cautiously excited for this album. The so so reviews have me a little concerned. It in the end everyone’s opinions are different and I may end up loving it. I enjoyed the singles but they don’t touch my favorite Sufjan songs (yet).

I hated 22, A Million at first, and was a casual fan of BI when it was released. Within a year, it became one of my favorite records ever and was my gateway into BI fandom. If this SS record has even half of this same effect, I'm even more pumped.

i was the same for 22, AM. at first i kinda hated it but I absolutely adore it now. For whatever reason, Sufjan's more electronic sound does nothing for me. I tried liking Age of Adz but i just dont enjoy it at all. im worried this album will feel the same to me....

I'll write you into all of my songs Supporter

At the time, I did not, and still have not, heard anything like the 22, AM record. Similar to you, the singles from Ascension don't have a "trailblazing" effect to me, which is what Age of Adz had going for it. Songs are still good though, just not majorly impactful.

  10. I haven't spent much time with The Age of Adz, but these songs are definitely a little less weird than that and the straightforward/"poppiness" of them is kind of what's sticking with me, in a good way

22AM is the best BI album, Adz is the best Sufjan album

lucky for you it's a comma, not a period, so there is only one statement!

I actually don't like Adz, but its a very uninformed opinion in the sense that I haven't given it a chance to grow on me. I've just tried it a few times and nothing clicked.

Carrie & Lowell is definitely my favorite, but I do love Age of Adz quite a bit. Would be third on the list of albums for me.

The album is out there now. I haven’t listened yet but I’ve heard from some who have heard the leak that it’s very good, so that’s getting me hyped to listen later.

I'm not judging this on the first listen. Just going to let it sink in for a few days.
