I think I like this more than anything else released so far. Gimme more immediate pop from this dude.
It's funny. I love almost all of Sufjan's work, but as crazy brilliant and complex as he gets, I think it's his simplest stuff that gets me the most. This song is just so listenable.
Can’t wait for this - the first album by a favourite artist that is released on my birthday! The closest I’ve been to a birthday release before this was Brother, Sister by mewithoutYou on 26th September 2006.
My Morning Jacket just had their vinyl release get affected by similar issues. A late August release wont show up until mid-October now. I'm betting more releases will get impacted in the next few months due to supply chain issues. No biggie. 2020 is a dumpster fire so I consider us lucky for getting any new music at all.
some rambling thoughts after a few listens truthfully, I'm a little torn on this. on early listens, a lot of the songs seem to stay on the same note and ride it out for a little too long for my liking, only to slowly build toward an apex that's...not really all that interesting ("Die Happy"). some of the songs I really do like I still feel are a minute or two longer than I wish ("Make Me an Offer" is the main one here). it's drawing from the same well as a lot of Age of Adz but to me...it seems to be missing some of the off-the-wall excitement of that album. also something about the way his voice is produced...you can hear it on the two singles, but it's...a little tinny(?) to my ears and it never really leaves that sound which is not my favorite. I do adore the fractured, off-kilter sound of "Lamentations." "Tell Me You Love Me" also hits a thrilling climax. "Landslide" has a hook that kind of...reaches past the album's very (too?) rich digital soundscape that I think is really cool. It's still early and this is without question a very dense album and like all of his albums outside Carrie and Lowell it may take some time to really sink in. but it's worth noting that I"m not instantly in love with this, whether or not I fall in love later on.
Jealous. And so, so intrigued. I reached out for an advance but never heard back so I'm just over here being all patient.
Love it. Can't wait for this record. edit: oooh, didn't realize the actual track is over seven minutes long
Another great one. Love the marriage of the subdued sound of C&L with the exploratory nature of Adz that he’s going for on these songs. Album definitely snuck up on me, completely forgot it’s out next week.
Sugar is really great, I definitely have a more clear picture of what the vibes of this album are after hearing these three songs
Really sucks no one can tour now because I am dying to see him on tour again Also the song is very good
