There's really no need for this straw man argument. Nobody really thinks that but if you're going to bring up reasons to put down his music you should probably make sure they're even close to accurate first. You know you're gonna get called out haha I appreciate your posts on this site lets just go back to getting stoked for new Sufjan !!
I love 22 A Million, but his last record sort of went in one ear out the other. Going back to it eventually
Jamming Age of Adz for first time in forever and yea i will never understand how it was left off of every best albums of decade list i saw
Bon Iver makes boring, pretentious music with highlights here and there, weighted earlier towards his career. Sufjan's running on the same wavelength but hasn't dipped to boring Apologies to the man on this forum who blocked me over this
Pretentious is often a go-to word to describe anything music is intentionally layered or features unconventional or even lavish production Hardly ever used when bands intentionally create stripped down music, as if there is no pretense to trying to sound lo-fi or like you wrote your song in 2 minutes
It's ok that we disagree. Not here to debate personal taste. Definitely here to point out that I find it amusing that you called BI pretentious in a Sufjan forum.
Would never consider Sufjan's music as "accessible" haha. It's literally some of the most "pretentious" music I listen to...if "pretentious" is just a synonym for complex or "not the four basic instruments in rock music"
22 AM is my favorite BI album, but I cant get thru Adz. haha. listening to "America" for the first time and I am halfway thru it and i am pleasantly surprised so far.
I enjoy music and appreciate when people don’t make me feel bad or insult the music I enjoy as I try not to make people feel bad for the music they enjoy that I might not enjoy
