Yoooooo I am on the first track and already am jaw-dropped. I never came around to C&L or The Ascension in any meaningful ways, but after just the opening track plus the singles, I like this more.
This really does feel like that exact midpoint of Adz and C&L, reminds me actually of the vibes that Carrie & Lowell live gives. Still mostly chill and stripped back, but plenty of moments of larger sounds and experimentation
Yep, it’s the perfect marriage of those two sounds. Definitely more C&L than Adz, but it probably wouldn’t exist without either. Wonderful album, one of the year’s best, and the first Sufjan album I’ve adored since C&L. The lyrics sound great too.
Boy oh buddy. I’m excited. Carrie and Lowell was my favorite album that year and one of my favorites of the decade. Haven’t really connected with any of his projects since. Very hopeful for this one!
Ever since the tracklist was released, I ridiculously hoped "My Red Little Fox" had something to do with my wish of adopting a dwarf german spitz. It strangely and lovely fits.
honestly weird to describe something as masterful and still put it in the 8s lol. not a gripe just kinda funny!
I don’t think the writer has a say in the score. Pitchfork just slaps a number on there for whatever gets the most clicks
I don’t think a record that pulls heavily from sounds that Sufjan has already perfected is going to get a 10 from Pitchfork. Generally seems reserved for paradigm shifting albums which is why they seem to rarely hand them out (and usually only in retrospect). Honestly don’t care, this record is shaping up to be great.
