I have been ITCHING to come back to this, just waiting for the weather to be right. today or tomorrow might be the day
haven't spun it in a few months, but i'm excited to revisit. still need to spin my copy of the Rough Trade B-sides as well.
Shit Talk is the most devastating love song of all time even before you find out it’s about a partner that’s died
There are more than one! Reflections is great. Haven't listened to the Decalogue as much but that too.
Speaking more broadly about his modern classical output, I super love the BQE, too. Actually, that's just one of my favorite Sufjan albums, period.
Just a quick reminder that Sufjan recorded an entire Christmas album every year for 10 years straight and we're supposed to believe he just stopped after that!?!??! Where are my 14 other albums??????
I don't want to sound dramatic, and I have probably said it in this thread, but I would legitimately rank Christmas Infinity Voyage: Songs for Christmas, Vol. VIII in the upper half of his discography, over more than a few of his standard albums. Although it was recorded and released to friends in 2008, it was very clearly created at the same time as Age of Adz and truly is a sister album to Adz, if you ask me..... Joy to the World contains parts of Impossible Soul for Christ's sake, this hidden gem of an album shouldn't be a hidden gem
I just did a bunch of posts digging into the Silver & Gold box set on my vinyl Instagram, and it's kind of insane how great volumes 7 and 8 in particular are (they're all good, but those are my favorites). It's very cool that he spent so much time making albums this good for friends (on top of the other incredible music he was making!), but better that he ended up also releasing them to the public.
He will be on the new Hannah Cohen album: https://www.brooklynvegan.com/hanna...-sufjan-stevens-clairo-more-shares-earthstar/
