idk i think knowing people involved is different than having a concept they thought up themselves being used in a show this popular

the vast overwhelming majority of people i know do not watch Succession, some only know about it because of tiktok and the trends it creates. Network TV is still going to do insane numbers because boomz still make things like Young Sheldon and The Good Doctor appointment television.

 

also a lot of people i know are in the "it looks good but i'm waiting for it to end so i can binge it" boat.

truly hate binge culture but thats a whole other thing.

 

Yeah NCIS has like 20 seasons and 3 different spin-offs and my parents watch all 3 of them. Basically everything on CBS is made for 50+ year olds in the middle of the country.

 

i liked NCIS LL Cool J for a bit because my wife watches that one and NCIS Wilmer Valderamma. I don't like NCIS Wilmer Valderamma.

 

Just remember comparing ratings for prestige cable shows to the ratings for shows on CBS isn't that apt.

Yeah more people watch shows on CBS, but the demo skews white, older, and middle income so the ad revenue is miniscule in comparison. The sweetspot for TV is something like that appeals to younger diverse higher income professionals, because even if the viewership is less those shows make more money for the network.

 

also who cares how many people watch something. if it’s good and I know it that’s all that matters

Yeah the only people who really should care about tv ratings are people who are involved in the shows, the networks, the advertisers, and ad agencies.

traditional tv ratings just exist to determine a show's monetary value to advertisers and how much a network can charge time for ad revenue. Average people caring about TV Ratings is weird.

 

true. And I guess I care to the degree that the “metrics” support the show continuing to exist.
