And Tom’s warped brain respects that. Greg has also been one of the only characters to show him any kindness, and on a couple occasions was honest with him. Tom is a very lonely man.
And it still gives Tom that person to punch down on. He doesn’t have to try and build a… relationship seems like an odd choice of word to use here… maybe power dynamic, with someone new. He gets to keep Greg around who he genuinely likes, appreciates, cares about while also knowing to a certain extent he can punch down on him as a stress release or power move or after someone punches down on him.
lol my AP gov students are all reading Pride and Prejudice in their english class and they asked me to play a clip of the movie today and I didn't realize Tom was Mr. Darcy.
i can't stop thinking about when roman sat down next to kendall and his hair blew up in the wind and then it just settled back down perfectly immediately after it made me so mad
I noticed a lot of people saying tom is going to turn next season but I feel like that’s already been the slow arc of this season, he slowly changed from the “nice guy” they made him out to be to more of a selfish, unstable piece of shit. I feel like every season has been the power struggle for the three main characters and it seems like now is just toms turn. No one is ready for king Greg tho.
I've seen some speculation he might even have turned before this; he might be the reason Logan knew where to the send the donuts earlier this season.
How exactly did Tom "turn"? It felt fairly well established from the first season that Tom was with Shiv because he had career aspirations in the company and Shiv was his ticket to fulfilling those aspirations. (Shiv, meanwhile, stayed with Tom because she likes having someone who so desperately needed to stay married to her that she could treat him like shit and he would stay around) Even after realizing how unhappy he was with Shiv, and Shiv straight up telling him she didn't love him to his face, Tom stayed with Shiv. Because his career was more important than his happiness. And in the end, did he realize that love and happiness were more important than career? No. He just finally found an opportunity where he no longer needed Shiv to advance his career. But he was never a "nice guy". Right from the start, he went to ATN not to turn it around or cleanup its racist news program but because he knew it would be good for career advancement.
there is a turn. it just isn't from "nice guy" to "cutthroat" it's from being "team shiv + team logan" to "team logan"
