people mistake the second season arc of them becoming somewhat chummy like they're genuine friends. tom has belittled him, been sexually inappropriate to him, and downright been a dick the entirety of the series. Kendall is a better friend to greg than tom is lol.

 

Yeah, Tom has always punched down on Greg because that’s the only person he can punch down on and he usually does it as soon as he gets kicked in the dirt (or at least that’s how they usually put the scenes back to back if I recall for most of the shenanigans) although I think Tom unexpectedly started to like Greg since he didn’t run off to HR or someone about Tom’s behavior and/or he just genuinely likes Greg and wants to be friends with him when it works for him while still punching down on him like an older brother.

Just started the new episode and Greg with like 3 fantastic lines off the bat.

I still can’t get over all that amazing food Adrian Brody had set out on that cliff side dinner only to eat like 2 clams and then leave.

also I genuinely think Tom likes Greg, I think he’s just such a broken person that he can only express that through demeaning insults and physical violence

I had the same thought S2E1 when theyre at the hamptons house and he tells them to get rid of all the food and theyre just throwing out lobsters and filets lol

He looks very comfortable and i admire the fit

 

I’m not hating on the fit. Simply commenting on the amount of layers.

 

No wonder he wanted to go walk outside in like 30-40 degree weather, he was probably close to passing out from heat stroke if they stayed inside any longer

 

I also like to imagine him on a business call while getting dressed and being so focused on the call that he forgets he’s already got on 7 layers and just keeps adding and adding

 

I think Greg is just naive and didn’t know he could report him

I don’t see it line that. To me it just looked as, Tom doesn’t care about Greg. He just sees him as a lifeline to get him out of jail. Seeing as Logan is personally taking to Greg.

 

Tom is really upset about family connections and getting ahead because of that. I don’t see why he would like Greg. Other than to use him.

 

he very clearly likes greg. like, the show has established that numerous times. he just also likes the only person lower on the totem pole than him and he'd rather take out his frustration by shitting on someone else than have a genuine friend

 

if Greg was easier to riff with we wouldn't be having this conversation

 

That could be, but I think Greg is cautious enough to at least think that since Tom is technically family that reporting him to HR wouldn’t likely go anywhere and Tom would find out and then make a scene of it by either making it worse / constantly joking about it / acting hurt because he considers Greg a “friend”.

it would be fascinating to see a flashback to like, three months before the first episode. Before Greg knew / met Tom was super depressed and beat down? Was he punching down on someone else? Did he have literally anyone to talk to lol
