It also allows you to make note to maaaaaybe not trust their opinions on things if they like something that is universally not or just doesn’t have merit to being considered good lol
The thing about great art and great endings is that you can't really recognize their genius until you see how it is pulled off. If you described the ending to Mad Men or The Sopranos through text you can't begin to capture that thing that makes them special. An AI ending might give a "satisfying" ending the way a sitcom dutifully wraps up its storylines, buy is never going to change the way you perceive what the medium can do.
Haha. I’m truly not here to convince you to change your minds. But the argument that “AI isn’t art” is the same reaction humanity goes through every time a new tech is invented. Printing press, radio, television, social media, etc. Every time one of those came to be and humans started using it to create stuff there were droves of people saying some version of “that’s not art” initially.
the big difference that should be obvious if you spend two seconds thinking about it is a human being took the time to create literally every one of the other things you mentioned lol. artificial is literally the word of AI. it’s artifice. it isn’t art. this isn’t a subjective thing lol. it’s pretty plain.
AI is not art. I’m sorry, but that’s ludicrous to think. I know you’re a Blink-182 fan so let me ask this: If the Tom returning album was actually just them putting a couple fart jokes into chatGPT and hyping it up, wouldn’t you be pissed?
Pat for the love of god don’t you respond with “Blink-182 isn’t art either” because I’m making a point here lol
Haha that’s a good example. It would be terrible and low quality “art” in the broadest sense of my interpretation of the word.
My point is there are artists that came before Andy Warhol that had the same criticism of his work as you would have of Tom if he did the fart joke ChatGPT album
The cool thing is criticisms can have different contexts through the centuries. Someone can be wrong in one era and right in another. Those who criticized Gutenberg, wrong. Me? Very much right.
I think if you want your own personal headcannon ending, you should be an adult and just write Erotic Fan Fiction like Tina Belcher and get it over with lol
AI cannot make art because art requires creativity and human input. AI can create things that can be used in art though. If Tom was like hey ChatGPT this fart lyric is awkward, what are some other things I could say, that would be unbelievably lame but I don't think it would exclude the product from being art. But, just a prompt is not enough creativity and human input. Art turns non-art into art constantly, but a human is the only one that can do that
I would agree with this. And if someone wanted to argue in the stated example that the creators of succession are artists and not the person who’s doing the prompting I’d agree, and then would argue back that the ones doing the promoting to create their own head cannon version of events are bastardizing the art not adding to it lol
Now we’re cooking with gas. Ill get a chart going: Musician uses AI to improve lyrics = art Viewer uses AI to generate alternative ending to a movie or TV show = not art
I think you’re missing a very huge difference in the examples. In the example wharf gave, Tom Delonge used art to assist him in the creation of his own work. In the example Ben Affleck gave, that you’re defending, losers would be able to leech off the work of others and alter their art. That’s not art or creativity, that’s fucking being a parasite.
yes. because "generating" is not an artistic process. writing lyrics is. the analagous example would be writing a script and having chatgpt help. you have "written" not just "generated"
What about androids? When the machines enslave humanity, will they be able to create art? Or will it sadly forever be a hollow reproduction?
“the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power.”
what if, as a plot twist, the viewer is a writer for the show that they are generating an alternative ending for?
