Tom is the worst right now because he chose to be in this family. The kids can claim that they are a product of being raised by Logan but Tom is just a sycophant. Multiple times Logan has insulted him to his face and said he was not good enough for his daughter and he just takes it and then lashes out at Greg or others.

All the times that people have discussed not being able to watch a show because the characters were unlikeable, I could never relate. I liked the characters from Seinfeld and a lot of the murderers in The Sopranos and even a couple of the advisors in Veep. However, these people are really hard to love. A lot of that is the writing that really pushes it, but also because of the obvious parallels to the Murdoch and Trump families.

  5. I think Roman is the most outwardly despicable but inwardly empathetic (not that any of them really are empathetic). It always feels like he's trying to be the shittiest but can't seem to clench it.

There is some empathy for the kids because they were clearly shaped by Logan and the abuse they received, especially Roman, but the question is at what point are you responsible for your own actions? That is something we always struggle with. In the first episode Roman humiliated that family at the baseball game with the bet, but after watching Logan make people get on their knees and oink for sausage you get the sense of where that behavior stems from. We know these characters went to elite private schools and never had to have a real job, so the process of getting socialized like the rest of us has been severely disrupted.

Yeah they are all terrible and it’s fun to watch them destroy each other

The guy playing faux-Bernie Sanders looks and sounds so much like Anthony Bourdain.

I just finished the second season. Overall, it is better than the first season. As far as the twist ending goes, it seems like a pretty huge gamble considering what Logan has on his son.

The third season drags, but the forth season absolutely nails it.

I have a friend who can't watch the show because he hates the characters too much because of the obvious parallels. He can't get past it and refuses to watch.

It's definitely infuriating at times, especially because of the obvious parallels to the Trump and Murdoch families.

Anti-heroes and amorality have been a big part of prestige television since the Sopranos, but usually they frame it by having someone worse to root against. Tony Soprano and his gang are a bunch of murders and sociopaths, but you root for them against Mikey Palmice and Richie Aprile and Ralph Cifaretto and Phil Leotardo. The "good guys" are the FBI, but they are portrayed as callous to the damage they do to people they use and are not driven by any real desire to do good. The same goes for Breaking Bad, where Walter White does many atrocious things but we want him to beat Tuco and Gus Fring and the Nazis.

At least so far, people like Stewy and Sandy aren't really villains. As far as we can tell, they are at worst as bad as the Roy family. Bernie Sanders is their opponent but we like him and he is morally correct. Even wide-eyed Greg has been seduced by the lifestyle.

One thing that didn't make sense to me is that no one in the family followed up with the revelation that Greg went into the building in the middle of the night. Greg would have immediately caved and revealed that Tom made him do it, and they would have been furious at Tom because he did not give them the information so that they could prepare an adequate defense. They were operating under the assumption that the information stopped at the guy who originally gave Tom the documents.

Karl is far and away the most likeable character. In the middle of a crisis meeting he asks if they are going to order food, and when he is denied he is late for the parade of vans and planes because he stopped to get a sandwich.

Kendall has rocketed to worst solely based on his rap. I haven't cringed that hard since Nathan for You.

Season Three is really generous with the famous actor casting.
