I wonder if Tom was at least partially based on Ron W Miller, Walt Disney's son in-law who became CEO of Disney in 1980. He was involved in a flipped scenario though where he was ousted in the takeover that elevated Michael Eisner.
Really enjoyed the finale. Going in with what felt like a lot to do, it was efficient. Honestly, I do feel like Roman wins in the end of this thing in that he has maybe the only chance to be happy and genuinely reset compared to everyone else.
Roman isn’t happy. He was recognizing there wasn’t a way forward and broken that his brother was being a psychopath at him, no one was happy, nobody in the family “won”
That scene of all the kids watching the home video was hilarious — getting nostalgic about the more human side of Logan that they never once experienced themselves
i like to think that she realized she had a better chance at playing tom than she did ken so she change her vote
It could be a million things. Honestly Tom, even (especially) as a puppet, probably would honesty be a better CEO than Ken lol. And Ken’s breakdown and literal assault of Roman/Shiv did everything to confirm any genuine concern Shiv might have had that he just isn’t fit to be in charge of anything
shiv was right to fuck over ken and yet also it feels like she willingly fucked herself into the most fucked situation of all rome is obv not happy but his “we’re bullshit” monologue is the closest thing to the truth any of them has ever expressed
Jesus Christ these Twitter reactions...particularly from the people who projected their girlboss fantasies onto Shiv this entire series and were actually rooting for her to be CEO.
One early analysis I am seeing that I think is on point is "Shiv essentially sentenced herself to become her mother to save her brother from becoming their father"
Under different showrunners this could've easily gone on for a couple of more seasons, I'm glad it bowed out here. Though I will say I would've liked a lot of the events in the finale to develop a bit more slowly, maybe one more episode or a 2-hr finale.
it’s the same stuff we saw a decade ago with anna gunn on breaking bad. people hate a strong female character. edit: obviously not meaning people in here
I don't think people get "You are not serious people" is the only 100% true line spoken in this entire show lol
Colin following Kendall around forever is such a perfect poetic end. Masterful stuff all around, I really loved this.
Shiv is not the worst but she also is no better than Kendall or Roman imo. She makes self-interested decisions, she sidesteps the right thing to do at most turns, and she is just as capable of saying and doing deeply horrible things to people in her life. She’s not a hero because she used her one remaining move to help elevate the father of her child to (given his empty suit qualities) a long-term position of power rather than her erratic and sniveling brother. This is a show without good people in it. You can definitely argue about the power rankings of evil here, and Shiv is not the most evil, but she did not make a selfless decision here - if she can’t be CEO, Tom is a better person for her to have as CEO than Kendal.
I totally get why Sarah Snook was devastated to find out that this was the final season after it was over.
Shiv suppressed a sexual assault victim and emotionally abused her husband all series, Roman sexually harassed Gerri (among others) and helped a Nazi circumvent democracy, Kendall killed a guy. Even outside of their flagrant breaches of individual ethics, just related to business operations/negotiations, we saw all three of them fuck up constantly without acknowledging any semblance of self awareness, they were never going to get what they wanted. Guys like Mattson and even Tom could see that. The reactions on twitter of people who were in some way rooting for Kendall, Shiv, or Roman are funny, though.
