Warners Bros. Discovery's rebranding team really chose the Succession finale weekend to force viewers into downloading and relogging in to a separate app that's the same except it's called Max and is blue.

 

Wait I have to re download the app??!

 

I am in South American and used a US account. I got a "Download Max" screen when trying to log in from my TV and then "Not Available In Your Region" when I tried to download it.

I had to create a new HBO MAX Argentina account, delete the app, download it again and re authenticate. Non-US regions stick with HBOMax for now it seems.

I think in the US, you just have to switch to the Max app and re authenticate, which is still a poor experience for users when they could've just refreshed the original app.

My tv automatically downloaded it and had me logged in already, it’s built different.

Yeah, earlier this week they made you get the new app but it was already ready to go once installed.

I can't help but feel some pessimism that Succession, Barry, and probably White Lotus might be the last of the great essential HBO prestige shows, at least for a long time.

 

True but I’ve been just consistently impressed with HBO for years and don’t see it stopping

 

people have been saying that after every brief pause in prestige tv and yet we're more than 20 years in of continued success

 

My prediction since Zaslav took over and the major media companies started going in a more "general entertainment" direction was that Apple TV+ was eventually going to become the last holdout for Prestige TV, and essentially fill the role HBO did during the 2000's/2010's.

 

Writers strike has been going on for a hot minute too, we’re in for an autumn full of reality TV

 

There’s such a great backlog there that deserves attention. HBO was my favorite app and I’ve spent my whole life watching their shows, and there is still plenty there that I’ve never seen before. If there’s a time to watch them, it’s now—before they’re eventually deleted and lost forever.

 

Yeah I still haven’t seen a lot of acclaimed shows on HBO that I can start up if there’s a lapse in content.

 

One things for sure: Netflix sucks

 

It’s funny cuz I used to defend Netflix when people always said they would cancel it because truth was there was quality shows every other month it seemed. Boy did that change

 

Just binged the 4th season so I can watch the finale with some friends tonight.


This is by far my favorite season, which makes sense, everything has been slowly boiling this entire series.


My feeling is Matsson fucks over Shiv in the end and all the kids are pushed out. That's kinda what i'm rooting for too lol. Will be interesting how they decided to wrap this up.
